Well that was fun. My motherboard blew up a few days before FO4 came out. Been slowly reinstalling shit on the new system in between playing. Seems like I missed about 100 pages in this thread in the meantime, lol.

The Silver Shroud is easily one of the better quest in game. The entire chain was damn fun to play. Very Happy

No terramorphing to remove holes or make the terrain flat, which would solve the above mentioned problem.

Oh, I quite often use foundations to create impossible to scale wall around the settlement and then in the only entrance I create a platform on top of stairs which is piss easy to defend Razz

of course when done by me it looks fugly as hell but .... Razz

You 'could' also create stairs and and place a building up the stairs, move all settlers up and then demolish the stairs Razz (I don't know how they'll behave if you move away from the area though, they'll probably teleport to the ground [settlers that is, the building stays up in the air])

I only just discovered the foundations yesterday myself and, indeed, they're going to be INVALUABLE for advanced builds - at least until some form of terrain deformation mod happens, if it does/can. Right now building in first person is horribly clunky and means I'm simply not bothering with most of the building at the moment, I've built a laughably basic extended sleeping/shopping shack in Sanctuary, along with various storage areas, and I've started building up Castle too.

That'll do until next year when we get the truly expansive and game-altering mods.

Oh and the video above details a very nice "clipping" exploit/procedure too, which will help when you absolutely have to clip through objects like tree branches, by using the concrete block foundations. Very cool! Even better when you can add "no settlement build limit" mods for PC ^_^

Motherfucker... Now I have to redo all my bases. Razz

I hated the fact that there were no no_clip foundations to make an OCD smooth surface. How could I have missed that. Rage

Yeah, the fences pissed me off with them "floating" in the air. I stopped building fences when I discovered that :\ I tell you something though, given the amount of content and the changes from FO3 that are now basic functionalities? I think when the G.E.C.K comes out, and it's not gimped in ANY way just for "console parity", we're going to see some truly spectacular changes.

I read on some forum you can use the no clip console command during building to make proper fences with no huge ass gaps everywhere.

Just remember that it will put a much greater strain on the game and your system, but as long as you don't go insane it should be fine Smile

Fences are a nightmare, every time I visit my settlements with floaty ones it annoys me to no end. Guess I'll try the No_clip console to see if it works for building mode. Smile

Yeah the snapping sure is annoying - I found that building on the lowest part of the ground is the smartest move - it makes your fence move deeper into the ground, sure, but at least there's no floating going around.

It will be a lot more fun once mods allow you to raise or lower "fixed" items like that.

Placing physics-affected items is buggy as fuck though. I spent two hours properly decorating my home with desk fans, globes, portraits, teddy bears, a dinner table with plates, glasses, forks and knives only to return from a quest and finding everything had sunk about 5 inches downwards. Plates had fallen through the table and everything was halfway stuck in a desk or a table or a floor. If mods can make a function to lock these items down, it will be a lot less frustrating.

@red_avatar Did you know if you drop the item on the ground and then go into build mode you can move it around very easily? Took me ages to figure that out Mr. Green

I don't know why they didn't provide a bunch of different sized and shaped foundation objects to avoid the gap and uneven ground issues. Also no brick/concrete walls/fences, which would have been a lot more useful than the shitty wire and picket fence ones.

They also need some sort of raised garden bed object for planting crops in. The current way of just haphazardly planting shit on uneven ground amongst rocks and undergrowth that you can't remove is annoying. It would also help in a couple of places close to the city where you get a tiny build zone with virtually no dirt sections.

Most of these objects luckily are already in the game. I guess we just have to wait for mod authors to add more diversity.
The current mods only add more decorations IIRC.

I do it the other way round - I move items in non-build mode because it's incredibly fiddly to get stuff placed on shelves otherwise. But I use build mode to make tilted stuff stand up straight.

But all stuff that is based on physics tends to behave unpredictably.

Oh, and am I the only one that is bugged by how light bleeds straight through walls and how settlers seem to have major path-finding trouble with stuff you built yourself? It seems the game needs some time to create new pathways.

Any tips on keeping track of settlers? I know when you highlight a settler it will also highlight the resource or thing they are doing but sometimes that is a pain to use.

Not only those, the whole AI in this game is retarded.
- Just yesterday i was doing a sidequest with a companion. I activated some Robotron. For nearly 20 seconds the Robotron tried to get past my blocking companion, when suddenly the Robotron just teleported in front of him. Laughing
- Also yesterday i rescued some cat and again my companion was blocking the scripted pathway of the cat. The cat turned like a fucking robot while standing still, to be able to get past him. Laughing

Seriously, most things in Bethesda games are so fucking amateurish. If it wasn't for the atmosphere and often still fun gameplay those games would suck so hard.

@TheDiggler
Sadly no, have to wait for mods to fix that.

I agree with you. I actually put a lot of time and effort into it before realizing it was all for naught. Just farm some corn, mutfruit and tato for adhesives and... that's about it.

I personally don't find it boring. Just utterly pointless beyond setting up an adhesive farm.
Can't wait for mods to make it more complex and actually useful/essential.
