It was a hell of a good run, though I do think this generation went on too long - especially in relation to others. A 5 year generation is usual in the industry, but this lasted for a decade, though admittedly the "NG" systems did come out in 2013.

psx went for 12 years, ps2 for 13 - so 10 years is actually a bit short in comparison.

the only console with a 5 year lifecycle in recent history was the gamecube, which isn't very surprising considering it was doomed from the start, being a shitbox with an awkward controller and a games library that was worse than that of the n64, which is quite a feat. didn't even get a decent zelda (no, i don't count TP) or mario game. oh wait, eternal darkness...nah. file that under n64 backwards compatibility Laughing

now gimme gimme yakuza 5. and as much as i'd like to finally play p5, i doubt we'll see it before 2017. it's kinda funny that atlus basically managed to miss the whole ps3 life cycle.

Naw man, I'm not talking about "release to death" as a generation, but "release to next release" and in which case, the PS1 came out at the very end of 1994 and the PS2 in Q1-2000. How is that, in any stretch of the imagination, "12 years"? Very Happy

NES 1985 > SNES 1990 > N64 1996 > Gamecube > 2001 > Wii 2006 > WiiU > 2012
MS 1985 > MD 1988 > Sega 32X 1994 > Sega Saturn 1995 > Sega Dreamcast 1998
PS1 1994 > Sony PS2 2000 > Sony PS3 2006 > PS4 2013
Xbox 2001 > Xbox 360 2005 > Xbox One > 2013

Mean averages being 5 years previous generational gap. The PS360 era lasting 8 years between generations.

yeah i get what you mean, just thought you meant the whole lifecspan since "decade" = 10 years Wink

there are just more things to take into account when talking about a console's lifecycle imo. the "release to release" time fits for the old xbox for example, which had a good start and died the second the 360 arrived. but the ps3 for example might as well not have existed for its first few years while the ps2 got epic life support. same thing currently with the wii and wiiu.

To me the last game i got and will get is Rise of the Tomb Raider, i though i will want Yakuza 5 also but after trying 3 and 4 it's just not for me (I liked the story/cutscenes but gameplay not), i also deleted many games from my list, so i'm down to about 15 games and then i could finally buy PS4 and play The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 as the hype is killing me.

same here, gameplay/fighting got stale after the first 2 and i also just play them for the story. but setting it to easy and just burning through the fights turns it into a nice movie with some button-mashing in between

No ones interested in Mighty No. 9?

I'm a big Mega Man and fan and this is the creator of Mega Man so it's a spiritual successor. I'd also be interested in Ori and the Blind Forest if it is still coming to Xbox 360. (but I have my doubts it is)

Well for me I want Mighty No. 9 for 360 for piracy I'm not much of a pc gamer and don't have a gaming pc. That's also why I want Ori for 360.

The game is an abomination not worthy of using the mega man name.

But... that you're not putting money in their pockets! Very Happy

tbh bushwacka, you won't get much for selling them anyway. You'd be lucky to buy a new game out of the cash you would receive from the sale.

well, considering i bought a broken 360 back then for 30€, rapaired and jtagged it and those are going for 100+€ now, i'm actually looking at a decent profit after using it for 4+ years Laughing pretty much the same with my ps3 and wii. still better than leaving them to dust in the corner and trading in 2-3 consoles for abrand new ng console isn't a bad deal.

I never understood selling consoles. Are you 100% done with every game that ever came out for it that you are interested in that you can't play elsewhere? If not why sell it? I still have hundreds of hours from games that I can play thus I'll never sell it.

Space, time, financial situations? I'd love to still own every console I ever bought.. but it's just not practical for the majority of us. I've owned almost all the major, and minor, prevalent *and* super rare systems out there - I'd friggin' love to still have my Neo Geo AES with 4 carts and two sticks, for instance, or my SNES and it's 100 carts and Magicom with hundreds more floppies Very Happy

over time, the financial aspect is the least issue, i'm just not eager to own stuff i'll never be using again. when i was 20 or so, i was proud of my games library and console "collection", but nowadays? nah. if you're a collector, then more power to you - but as soon as i'm done with games, why bother storing them.

if i've learnt something over the last few years then it's that if a game doesn't make me want to finish it right here and then or has that magical "one more mission" feeling, it's usually simply below my standards and/or doesn't respect my time. if it's been sitting there for a moth or longer and i still haven't had the desire to play, let alone finish it, i almost never ended up liking it in the end.

it's probably an age thing besides simply having other priorities, but the only things these days i feel the need to have an archive of are books and music. and porn Laughing Laughing

For me it's because of moving to another country. Didn't have the space nor was I willing to pay significantly more to bring more of my collection over.

Still got my most precious ones with me while I gave the rest away. Probably will start collecting again when we move to a house.

When I was younger I sold my PSX and my Saturn (which I regretted afterwards) that was pretty much since I stopped playing them and wasn't as madly in love with them as my other consoles.
