|
 |
i get this product to convert my IDE harddisk to USB but isn't faster at all
http://www.usbgeek.com/prod_detail.php?prod_id=0208
the R-Driver II was for some reason slightly slower. It managed only about 17.5 megabytes per second write speed, and around 19.5Mb/s read speed, in highly non-laboratory conditions. The older adapter managed 23 to 25Mb/s, which for a hundred gigabytes of data means waiting about 70 minutes, as opposed to about 90 for the R-Driver II (300Gb fansubbed anime collection at 17.5Mb/sec: Less than five hours). You may or may not care about this.
check this web site out .. for the product more info ..
i don't know it's not speed at all ..
here is review for it
http://www.dansdata.com/rdriver.htm

the only reason i wanted this for put the harddrive when the computer turned on .

Theortical Data Rates:
USB - Low Speed 1,5 MBit/s = 0,1875 MB/s
USB - Full Speed 12 MBit/s = 1,5 MB/s
USB - High Speed 480 MBit/s = 60 MB/s
(USB Hosts only deliver 240 Mbit/s = 30MB/s, so a performance cap)
SATA - 150 MB/s (MEGABYTES not Megabit)
SATA II - 300 MB/s
FireWire - ~3145 MBit/s = 393MB/s
IDE - ATA/ATAPI4 (Ultra-DMA-33) - 33 MB/s
IDE - ATA/ATAPI5 (Ultra-DMA-66) - 66 MB/s
IDE - ATA/ATAPI6 (Ultra-DMA-100) - 100 MB/s
IDE - ATA/ATAPI7 (Ultra-DMA-133) - 133 MB/s
---
So FireWire > SATA > IDE (assuming anything better then UDMA33) > USB
---
Always remember the used harddrive may not deliver these rates. Actually no drive does. So as long as your harddrive isnt faster than 30MB/s (a lot !). The connected Bus wont be much of a performance loss. Just translating between USB and IDE.

well, right now IEEE1394 is at 800MBit/s, 1600 and 3200MBit/s may never appear, now that Apple will use Intel hardware.

hmm, i'm not sure if i get what you are saying, you want to connect a hard drive to your pc while it is running? In that case all you have to do is to buy an external usb/fireware hard drive case.

I'm using This little mofo, and it's working perfect.
Can change to whatever disc I want to have in it, and turn it on / off when my computer is running..
$73 USD
I hate you.
