This first tavern brawl mode is maybe fun for the first time but gets boring fast. Hope they have something better next week. And its totaly unbalanced too imho.
Damnit, need to save up some gold (also a purely free player). What I really hate though is that arena rewards are no longer guaranteed to include a new card pack with the expansion - that was my primary way of getting cards, and it's getting nerfed to the ground.
Well you are still getting guaranteed packs, just not guaranteed that it's a pack from the latest expansion

Arena Reward Update
Beginning with the launch of The Grand Tournament, the Arena will no longer award players only Goblins vs Gnomes card packs. Instead, players will have a chance to receive a Grand Tournament card pack, Goblins vs Gnomes card pack, or a Classic card pack whenever a pack is awarded.
(yes it says "whenever a pack is awarded", but that doesn't imply that you can have runs without any packs now)

That's strange, I thought the only way to get cards like Grim Patron is to buy the relevant expansion (either for gold or for real money), and win the encounters in the adventure.
@sausje: I know, but packs which are not from the latest expansion will have very low value for me (since I already have almost all those cards). For GvG, I got all my cards by playing the arena - after getting to Legendary, the arena is all I play more or less (+ a few games per month to get the card backs).
@Kamamuracz: for adventure cards (Naxxramas, MC) that is the case, for normal cards (GvG, classic) you need to buy the packs or get them from the arena.
Tavern Brawls have been fun and stuff in the past but this latest one is just pure p2w glory.
Whoever has the most amount of expensive legendaries wins pretty much.
That's what I thought too at first, but I went in anyway, because I needed to get my one weekly free pack of cards
And I have a single legendary card, and that is Sylvanas.
However, I have realized that it's not quite true, super-expensive cards lose to good distribution of efficient cards around 5 mana cost - because you can play 2 cards in one turn while he can play only a single super expensive, which can give you board control. I have won quite a few games with druid concentrating on 5 mana cost cards. Don't forget that the game is brutally fast starting with 10 mana - I had a game against warrior who did 10 damage in the first turn, I did not have a chance to play a single card, and was 10 life down. Though I suppose that legendary card that sets a player to 15 health no matter what is even stronger on turn 1...
Also, legendaries are mostly quirky cards, not super-effective in terms of mana cost/performance ration. That's why they are used sparingly in the good decks.
With the exception of Dr. Boom, of course - that card is so OP it's good in any deck.
Also, coin is worthless and who plays first has a huge advantage.

Resurrect needs p2w pve, no?
might as well call buying packs with gold p2w. i haven't spent a dime on the game yet and still got all the necessary cards for competitive play
Hahaha, what on the earth can kill TWO Khel'Tuzads? SIX Khel'Tuzads!
This is insame.
BTW Mind Control sucks, because it's too slow, If your opponent is loaded with Legendaries, he will just play another one. Plus its battlecry effect.
If you go first mind control is instant win, you play a card, he plays a card, you steal his now you're two up to his 0, no coming back from that.
Coin can be good too, i played a 9 cost card and coined out an annoy-o-bot, again instant win.
Thats the problem with this brawl, if you get a bad turn 1 or 2 its insta concede
Except that you played twice ("a card" and mind control), while your opponent played only once ("a card"). There are multiple ways out of this, for example plaing Sylvanas, now you have two cards and he has Sylvanas, but when you kill his sylvanas, he will steal one of your card, without wasting a full turn.
So Sylvanas is a 5/6 body for 6 with the mind control effect (but you cannot choose what is controlled), while mind control is just the effect (albeit you get to choose) for 10.
Therefore, in a board full of legendaries Sylvana > Mind Control.

I know there are possible ways out its just unlikely and given that its unlikely most people concede.
Sylvana wouldnt work, i'd just go face and even then that assumes you dont have a silence or something which i do in my priest deck.
EDIT: I'm starting to think I can't build a deck from random cards but I can play just fine.
5-1 atm on my second arena with the help of heartharena, could be luck I guess but I rarely even broke 2 wins in the past so..
EDIT2: 8-3, 7-3, 5-3, 8-3
This site rocks.
