Aye, I had the same thought too but I already chose Triss in TW2, wanted to finish out Geralt's story "as it was meant to be", so to speak. Besides.. apparently Yen warms up quite considerably in the later half of the game's story.

Should Geralt choose Yen over Triss? I can't figure that one out. I'm playing this as "Geralt of Rivia" as much as I can, but the Yennefer thing is bothering me. They shiould have a strong connection, but we didn't see that in the previous games., so it's a bit difficult to connect to her over Triss. Can anyone who has read the books comment? Yes I know it's my game and I shiouldn't care, but I'm Geralt of Rivia dammit :x

I did the only right thing and declared my love to both :P

Think about it.. he lost his memory, fell in love with Triss, then regained his memory of being in love with Yen, so obviously he's gonna love both, it's not his fault... now if only I could explain it to Triss and Yen...

What an awesome game. I'm still only level 13 and I enjoyed every minute of it. This is one of the few games I take time for a stroll, chilling in Novigrad. It's also surprisingly challenging even when you're high level, I think monsters have a range in which they scale. Not giving XP when you're 5 levels higher is also a very wise decision. In most RPGs this would lead to skipping quests, but in this one I wouldn't even think of such a blasphemous thing, even if I don't get any XP Very Happy
If the later parts are rushed like most games, missing the extreme attention to detail, I'll be pissed Evil or Very Mad

Geralt and Yen have a rather toxic relationship in the books. They genuinely love each other, but Yen has a rather abrasive personality to say the least.

In the books they always end up splitting up and then reconciling. A lot of this may have something to do with the fact Geralt's last wish to a djinn was that they would never be apart.

Finished my cat armor set at last. These treasure hunts are one of my favorite parts of the game. They combine exploration, lore, and even some light puzzles.

Now I need a monster egg to upgrade the gryphon sword...

That's pretty much par for the course these days... but fear not, Witcher 3 actually just keeps on giving all the way to the end.
It's the kind of game you only get when the devs love what they're doing, take their time with it, and aren't just ordered around by the publisher... so exceedingly rare nowadays.

So I'm, guessing you chose Yen... which is proof to me that choosing the opposite will be the right decision Devil Troll

The fact that Triss knew even back in the first game (TW1) that Geralt was with Yen and loved her (and acted surprised when he didn't remember anything), and decided to not tell him a thing and basically use him throughout TW1 and (partly) TW2, when Geralt finally got mad and demanded answers? Triss wants it too hard, it's the same in the books. She's just not interesting enough for Geralt Very Happy
Yennefer is much more complicated, and overall more on par with him.

Wonder who's the bigger problem for Geralt, Wild Hunt or a trio of the most powerful sorceresses in the North whom I guess will soon discover that Geralt has been sleeping with all three of them. Very Happy
(Kaer Mohren's ruin will be a nothing but a crater after the ensuing catfight I suppose, as for G I guess he'll be teleported into the sun or something.)

Is this being shown in the game itself though? I haven't seen much of Yen, but untill now she's been something of a cold woman.

@Neon: that's true, but the connection with Yen was never properly shown in the games, so she might be an even bigger bitch. I'm not far into the story yet, so I hope their relationship gets a lot of attention later on. They also should've shown more sequences with young Ciri, to establish the father/daughter relationship between Geralt and Ciri.

I'm not that far in, just had the short conversation with her after meeting the emperor, so I'm not sure how it's going to continue. But what I've seen so far, there are subtle hints to Yennefer's true character. Mentioning the unicorn in an otherwise dead serious letter was pretty funny. Smile
Her 'cold' conversations with Geralt are just sparring, you can tell by his smiles and looks that he's enjoying it rather than being annoyed.

Did you check it?
Yes, it's from that notice board that you get the quest.

Maybe it's later in the game? I've started doing the Baron quests now, already checked the noticeboard, no fights Sad Perhaps the board restocks after the Baron questline is done?

Aye, I'm of the same mind too... there's just no connection (in the games) between them and whenever she's around, she's an aloof bitch, whereas Triss is so very clearly madly into Geralt and they have a lot of chemistry. Still, the "story" has Geralt and Yen and, as I read, the "connection" really starts building up in the second half of the game when you spend more time with her.

Couldn't agree more! I'm lv14, 79 hours in, and having as much fun and enjoyment out of this now as I was in hour 1. Unlike DAI and Divinity OS, where after 80 hours it started to wear thin, I'm not having any burn out at all.. there's always something fun to do, always an engrossing quest that makes me WANT to tackle it.. XP or no XP (though I'm VERY lucky right now it seems, no XP bug at the moment thank fuck) -- I even enjoy the combat and I get a rush of satisfaction taking on enemies that are many levels higher Very Happy

I'm also very impressed with Ciri so far too, her character was SO not what I was expecting either... from the promo shots and her expression, I was expecting some brash "bad girl", but she's really funny and sweet grinhurt I love the way she talks about her "father" and "uncle", I hope she's in the game a LOT more after her flashbacks.

I *think* it was on my way back from accepting the baron quest from the guy himself; on the way up I picked up the whatever witcher contract, on the way down I saw it flashing again and was a bit puzzled, checked it out and it mentioned the fists of fury quest (as well as the velen gwent quest... I think)

to get the fight quest you have to go to a tavern and there will be a fight going on, simply just enter then after the match is over geralt will ask the guy who he can fight next and the quest track will appear

They do show more Yen in this game than Triss and establish her personality and their relationship.
I found Yen to be cold and headstong, but that was because she would do anything to find Ciri...no matter the consequences.
She wasn't half bad later in the game, maybe during the second playthrough I'll choose her. Wink

Both Triss and Yen tend to use Geralt for their own good and not tell him what he wants to know, but more what he needs to know. They are all very manipulative. Very Happy

In the end though,I find Triss to be more kinder and cute. Geralt and Triss tend to have these awkwardly cute conversations where Triss seems shy. Smile

Plus I find it funny that the devs made an alternative outfit for Yen(sexier),but not for Triss...confirming what Stormwolf said. Very Happy

yep the manipulative thing is just how sorceress are in Witcher world...
To me Triss always felt like "teenage fling" aka the girl to go when he wasn't with Yen (or has Amnesia). Relationship between Yen and Geralt felt more mature and more like "married couple"-kind of convrsation , also they have strong connection through Ciri. About their conversations its on one had strong focus to find Ciri and on the other its like the game, which they both enjoy and kinda like foreplay for them (judging by what i saw from games and read from books)
But i guess my tendency to go for Yen is coming from my love for books and from my really bad experience with "teenage fling" -kind of relationships
