I can't make up my mind between these 2 monitors its making me crazy.
On one hand the Samsung has a cheaper build and flimsy stand, and limited conectivity, but its 30 bucks cheaper.
On the other the Dell is more apealing to me visually and has lots of interfaces and an awesome ergonomic stand BUT, i keep reading complaints about them , backlight bleeding, excessive glow on the lower side, turning on and off randomly , and its 30 dollars more expensive, what do you guys say ?

Samsung has PLS panel and Dell has IPS, both has their strong points. Both can also have backlight bleeding, every monitor is different. Its really a panel lottery in that price range (tho seems to apply even to expensive monitors these days).

Samsung PLS coating is slightly lighter/less grainy than LG AH-IPS coating.
On the other hand the Dell P2414H is supposed to be able to do 80hz overclock via DisplayPort, that makes it a big plus if you also play games. (the U2414H uses a different panel and cannot do 80hz)

Yeah, but itsn't that dangerous for long term use ? Or is it risk free these days ?
Im not planing on overclocking them, im mostly interested in the PWM free backlights and IPS/PLS tech, i have a 5 year old Acer H235H and its kinda shitty.
I was leaning over to the Dell since i like the design more and the build quality looks solid compared to the Samsung, but i don't know if im gonna get the shaft in terms of bleeding and other panel issues.

But would it make any perceivable difference a 75-80 hz overclock ? on these types of IPS/PLS monitors ?

yeah its a bit better than 60hz but certainly not as big a jump as 120hz. an additional 15-20 frames per second and the display persistence decreases from 16ms to 12-13ms. (slightly less motion blur)
you can leave the desktop at 60 and use higher refresh rates only in games

Dell U2414H is IPS monitor with the least amount of IPS glow probably ever. But it seems you care more about Hz than picture quality so why are you even bothering with 60Hz monitors expecting to overclock them slightly, just get high refresh monitor and be done with it.

"As you change your line of sight the white, silvery glow appears across the panel. This wasn't actually too bad at all on this screen, much like we'd seen from the P2414H as well in fact, and in normal lighting conditions didn't seem to be a problem at all. "

youtube.com/watch?v=aDzJiTthX88 - P2414H glow
the camera has higher exposure in the second video - otherwise I don't see a big difference

vs. 2 AD-PLS panels - the 20%-80% rise time is slower by 3-4ms. The black-white transition is almost twice as fast and there is less overshoot (6% vs. 13% vs. 19%)

nah, VA still has a gamma shift, but its true it looks completely different than on TN.
Its noticeable only on dark greys/dark colours - moving your head left/right makes them change brightness and causes a mild "shimmering".
Maybe its not as visible on a TV compared to a monitor since one sits farther away.
Its annoying in its own unique way - I'm not a fan of it but its the lesser evil for me since I prefer to use screen in a dark/dimly lit room.

good luck, hope you get a nice panel!
is your screen tiring to your eyes? The Acer H235H is a CCFL screen (as all were once), people report more problems with LED-based PWM, especially at low frequencies.
But many are also completely unaffected. I did not have problems with my old CCFL but it became noticeably dimmer after a couple of years.
The flicker-free I have now is more pleasant but coming from a CCFL the illumination of WLED backlit panels will take some getting used to.

Yep the thing that made me go for a buy was eye strain.
I think its more to do with me aging since in the past i could go for long gaming stints without feeling eye sore, headaches, but these days i cant play for more than a couple of hours without loosing focus and getting eye sore.
My monitor was also in the shop when the backlight went bad, maybe its something about that too, before that i never really noticed flickering of any kind.
Also my monitor has terrible grayscale, like you can't really make out dark greys and blacks at all. My color gamma is also weird, with the blue band blending at way over 2.2 and my colors are murky.

Lol, but if they refuse to replace it its gonna get worse with time ? I never had dead pixels, i had once a chinese LCD TV with a stream of stuck pixels that got worse every day.

depends on the dead pixel policy and goodwill whether Samsung take it back if there is one dead pixel
you can instead tell them there is dirt stuck beneath the panel

Shiiet, you can tell them that it was simply not what you expected, if you aim *only* to return it. Not sure about the replacing part.

If you live in Europe, you got the 2 weeks return policy anyway, they NEED to accept it back without questions and refund you full amount.

Samsung should have a zero tolerance for dead pixels so there should be no problems with that plus the return policy too but this was when I got my monitor some years ago so it might have changed recently, others apparently have one or two dead pixels as the limit so it varies from one manufacturer to the next unfortunately.
(It can also vary between if it's a dead pixel - black - or a stuck pixel - red - from what I've read but to me they should be treated the same, fault in the monitor.)

After 1 month of threatening to sue i finally got my refund, bought the same Samsung from a local store, and after 3 days its a thing of beauty.
Now i see how shitty my old TN was, besides the piss filter i got used to, the colors i was missing and the amount of detail in dark shades holy shit.
Porn never looked better .
But yeah, im so happy i don't have to stretch my neck to see things in dark areas in games due to gamma shifts .
Also ive been noticing that tough alot more bright....eye strain is almost gone, this flicker free thing is nice
Cons not so much, except for PLS glow and black deph, but im not bothered at all, the glow is only visible at extreme angles from the left/right.I actually expected the glow to be worse, pleasently suriprised by this, compared to the horrible shifts in my TN.
