So far after tutorial and 1 quest...brilliant game Very Happy

Seems to be quite a lot to do and upgrade in town and there's access to 4 areas, 3 of which aren't unlocked yet, but may unlock after first area is finished.

Same with the town buildings. They unlock as you do quests. I've just unlocked the Tavern and Abbey which reduces stress they get in the dungeons.

In the Tavern they relieve stress by drinking, gambling and brothel.

The Abbey is also stress relief but by praying and other religious stuff.

That's how far I've got so far but looking very good and very tough Smile

It's pretty good, the feeling of hopelessness is great.

Although the game could've been 10 times easier Laughing

There's an early access release floating around for those who may be wondering, 710.17 MB installer file. The cunts that made it did modify the title splash.png to put their URL on the menu, but apart from that the release works flawlessly and the game is unaffected.

Well, my first attempt didn't go quite to plan, in large part because I simply got overwhelmed managing resources / keeping everyone sane / keeping track of which class to bring and whatnot. Having said that, the game is wicked fun dungeon crawl, and the atmosphere is simply unmatched.

Highly recommend. I'll be buying this come the 3rd.

I thought I can keep the same 4-man party thorough the entire playthrough Laughing Half of them died on the first normal quest and the remaining two lost their sanity a couple of fights ago Rolling Eyes

It really is a pain keeping multiple parties straight, especially when you start having to factor in negative quirks (debuffs) they start gaining even upon successful completion. That, and the fucking town mayor occupying valuable recuperation spots kinda sucks.

Still have yet to make it to a boss, but right now I'm juggling 3 separate parties and getting their weapons/armor upgraded.

Just a tip for those that may be starting out - always keep your light level above 75% to minimize stress. Also, in terms of optional things to bring, make sure to always have at least 2 shovels - the stress hit is massive if you have to dig by hand. And pay attention to the yellow dots (positioning) for your characters - make sure to line them up optimally.

Even with all the bugs/naked code, I can already see myself wasting hundreds of hours in this damned thing.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“We plan to be in Early Access for approximately six months, which time we will use to add more dungeons, more character classes, and many new features. Our intent is to release the full version of the game sometime in the 2nd half of 2015.”

But of course we all know how well these plans go..

Games like Dream have had extremely slow updates:
http://steamcommunity.com/games/229580/announcements/detail/204119981947908017

Age of Decadence has been stuck for years in development hell but maybe it might even get released in March, who knows:
http://steamcommunity.com/games/aod/announcements/detail/230016859499545383

Dead State came out of EA with game stopping bugs that are still being fixed:
http://steamcommunity.com/games/239840/announcements/detail/257037823412488493

Looks like games with a 'D' word need to be avoided Cool Face

From the half dozen hours or so I've played thus far, the game seems more or less finished apart from the two additional missing tile-sets, their corresponding enemies, and 6 additional character classes.

There's not much left to do from a technical standpoint. What it needs is some fine tuning and balance with regards to squad management, resources, and class balance.

I have faith they'll more or less meet their deadline. No reason not to.

Those "medium" level quests are no joke. I had a full party of upgraded Rank 3 adventurers, got decimated pretty much 3 rooms in due to bleed stacking.

Also, those goddamned Brigand Fusiliers that crit the entire party for 8+ damage at a time, more or less every time, are bullshit and need to be nerfed. Crying or Very sad

The game is so good, yet so immensely hostile (they weren't kidding really Razz), every time I start exploring a dungeon I feel the stress haunting me, there is no way I'll make it back safe Crying or Very sad Laughing
I don't even trust checking mid-level objects anymore, 9 times of 10 you get

It's very satisfying though when you pull it off, even if your guys are getting utterly insane, they see spiders everywhere, ghosts, they randomly become psychopaths and refuse to heal themselves and fight xD
I believe some intense Wiki-ing might be required for me though, or it's a rinse and repeat party.

Yeah, same thing happened to me-- that RNG can be a real bitch sometimes. So, I know this is a cheat, but here's what I did now for my new playthrough: before I take my squad on a quest, I go to my X:\My Documents\Saved Games\Darkest and create a copy of my profile in there and past it to another folder just in case shit goes sideways in the dungeon. After my best guy got marked and then face-raped by the next 3 dudes on the first battle of the map... he went from fine to death's door to dead before I even made a move.

Game is fun as hell tho. Love it.

I got a Crusader that had 2 mutually exclusive quirks. One was that he could only get stress relief in an abbey and another that he could only do so in a brothel. Which meant that he could not do so anywhere. So I had to wait until the Sanitarium unlocked and then pay through 3 removals before i got rid of one of those Sad

Yup, this game is crazy hard. But still in early access, so there is some hope they'll tone it down a tad. One GREAT start would be to have the tavern and abbey open upon starting (while still needing many upgrades). Getting started is probably the hardest part.

Some advice:
1) I still highly recommend backing up your profile before a run. If that RNG fucks you, "reload" and try again. I've had to use that twice now... though once was for my own fault-- accidentally dragged a torch to a stack of books and my Vestal fucking freaked the fuck out right near the beginning of the map. Totally stressed out (not even 1 battle yet) and afflicted from burning the "knowledge". She was completely unusable. It did make me smile though.
2) Learn what items are needed for specific objects in the dungeon: i.e. medicinal herbs for alchemy tables and iron maidens *before* searching them, holy vials for urns, altars, and confession booths (those booths will get rid of like 30 stress for the toon you use to search it if you use the vial first!). I wouldn't dare touch most of that shit unless it is cleaned first with items.
3) I recommend 2 stacks of torches and 2 stacks of food. Try to keep light above 75% unless your toons work better in low light (certain quirks). Surprising mobs is great because they are sitting ducks the whole first round (and into the 2nd too if you get some stuns in).
4) Gold only stacks to 1500. Screw that. Stack gems and stuff instead. Inventory space is limited. Leave gold behind. I hate it but you gotta (you can shift click on items in the inventory to drop them... feel free to grab the gold and then drop it for something better later in the run).
5) Stun. Stun. Stun. Any chance you get, stun over direct attack. Getting hit causes stress (especially a crit) to the victim and often the other toons too.

I've got a couple of toons on level 3 now and having a blast. It gets MUCH easier once you can upgrade some weapons/armor, open up some other attacks, and afford to get some negative quirks gone with nurse ratched in the cuckoo's nest.

Ahhh fuck! I did so not know that, I even bought and brought that shit with me, in case I needed it for something. Guess its back to the wagon for me
