|
 |
Hello
I've currently got a P8 Z68V GEN3 and the CPU attached to it is a 2600k
I can either get a 5820K, or if it's worth it, a 5930K
Since I am running two GPUs in SLI, and since I will probably go all out on the RAM, what sort of motherboard should I be looking to purchase? This is the store I buy from and in turn the list I have to choose from. Ignore the prices, they generally are high everywhere anyway.
I guess I'd need a new CPU cooler too. I'm currently using a H80. Considering how well it's served me, I was thinking of getting a H100i unless there's a reason I shouldn't
Thanks

Unless you're planning on going for tri-sli and an m2 drive and not overclocking, then theres not much point to the 5930k. You get more bang for your buck with the 5820k, theoretically it's also a better overclocker due to the reduced cache.

This just reminds me I have to upgrade my CPU Darn, bottleneck xD
I love what I put together back then, but that big mistake of going non k...
I'd say 5820k, for the reasons Epsi brings.
Motherboard... no clue. Haven't read up on those for a while now.

Yup, I want to upgrade my 2500k at some point but yay... that means whole new mobo too >_> Honestly Inter, I'd recommend going with the 5820k as well. OCs nicely and far better value for the money. The 5930k shines with 3/4-way SLi but you're only running standard 2-way, so yeah.. money/value.

If you are going for 5820K and gaming, then you just better off with Z97 setup (4790k). Go check some benchmarks and decide yourself. But if you must go for X99 setup, get 5930K and OC it, also get insanely expensive fast DDR4 and you are set. Also get something better than H100i, Swiftech H220X is miles better and uses premium components, costs nearly the same aswell.

Same case as Sabin says... 2500K but dunno what to buy..however, SKYLAKE (Intel) coming out this year i'd wait a bit.. If Skylake doesn't do much better than what's actual (4790K n similar with DDR4 etc),wait for price drops and go bite the bullet...or something...

It's doubtful that Skylake will do that much better, and the first released CPUs will be the non-K variants from what I understand. Wouldn't wait for price drops either, since that never really happened - 2500K and 3570K had pretty much the same price until the end times!
Either way, since he is going for Haswell-E, Skylake is not really in competition.

Eh tell me about it, after that MH:O benchmark I went to look for cheap 2500k's and 2600k's (Don't have the money to do a proper upgrade) but even on them when you find them its 200€+
And they perform so well that there is no second hand market for them around here.

I'd say its all a waste of money and people are going Xeon because regular i7 didnt evolve fast enough. In principle though the amount of money compared to the measly advantage you get for that X99 setup might aswell be invested in something else. Intel is to blame when people need to resort to Xeon to finally get that upgrade they were used to get in normal intervals in the past without having to go Xeon. (AMD is also to blame for not getting their shit together)
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

There's barely any difference where gaming is concerned between Sandy Bridge and up.
R7 2700x @4GHz / MSI B450 Tomahawk / beQuiet! Dark Rock 4 / 32GB @3000 MHz / MSI RTX 2060 Gaming Z / Samsung 850 EVO 250GB / Western Digital 1TB / Fractal Design Meshify C Dark / SuperFlower Leadex Gold 650W / DELL whatever 27 inch IPS

Something like Z97 setup vs Haswell-E wont have much difference in gaming in Single/SLI setups (4790K seems to be best choice at the moment price wise and performance wise), but SB -> Haswell-E will be nice upgrade.

Also, I asked around on a local board and the consensus is that nobody really knows when Skylake will come, and some were even suggesting the desktop versions may arrive in 2016 |
Well, I meant non-E versions, it's obvious there's an improvement where E CPU's are concerned.
