You sure that's a winrar issue? Does 7zip extract the same file faster?

We're not using winrar, we're using 7zip.
Anyway make sure it's not extracting to a temporary folder in c: but directly to the destination. Don't use drag'n'drop.
EDIT: If it's extracting in the same hdd, then no wonder it's slow.

This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I usually extract those big ass files from my HDD to my SSD, then move back the iso to the HDD and install it to the SSD.

No clue, haven't used winrar for quite some time now. Last times I was using it it was considerably slower than 7z so I dropped it.

I still use Winrar. Nobody ever mentioned this 7zip before

Never had a reason to change. Same goes for Winamp 2.91 as my music player.

i still not understand why torrent/trackers are forcing people to upload in pieces, instead an extracted iso.
it just double the space you need, use cpu, for no sane reason.
yeah, on usenet is a great system because file coruption and recover parts, but torents ?
7zip vs winrar.
from my pov, fuck 7zip.
how fucking hard it is to put an option : put files in separate archive. are they really expect to manually select and archive 1000+ books dir's ? (at least in the last version i use, it had no such thing).

I have both 7z and WinRAR installed, 7z for those pesky 7z files but my mainstay is RAR and it always has been.

7z doesn't support RAR. How, pray tell, do you propose I decompress (one of) the most prevalently used archive formats on the internet, using software that doesn't support it? Yeah, that's what I thought. No, I'll stick with WinRAR which - conversely - also supports the competitor's 7z format.

wth are you smoking ?
noone on unix is using 7zip. and noone will ever do. it have some filesystem limitation. and on ntfs to. but on ntfs you dont care to much about filesystem permissions.
and winrar offer the source code for unrar, and is allowing anyone to use it.
