Even though I somewhat agree with you, that's a personal preference and standard.
Mine is that games shouldn't cost an arm and a leg (especially if they're already paid for via kickstarter) and be reasonably priced.
Now I've played the yaaar version of Wasteland 2 and I liked it, not enough to shell out the 40+ € they wanted for it back then tho as I wouldn't stretch the 25€ mark on that game. |
well both Wasteland 2 and PA(probably some others) have that high EA price imo just because of kickstarter not because of greed or such.
Honestly I would do the same at their position with succesfull KS where is promised alpha/beta.. access for higher pledges. I would rather annoy random steam with high EA price than to annoy my backers who pretty much funded the game |
Hence, it's not worth 45€ at the moment. When the final game is out and IF it's around 20-25€ then I'd purchase it. But until then, nope, not worth it (very few games are IMO).

..and he says he doesn't . It sounds to me that the "high" price is just a (very poor) excuse that he found in order to hide his incompetence, or bad taste in gaming, or both. |
Not really, as he could have just said the game was outright bad and be done with it. The fact that he admitted its not his type of game, but still liked it enough to play it much longer than he probably would have, and still give his honest opinion, i.e its good, but not £40.00 worth of good, shows no incompetence whatsoever.
I think he's just being brutally honest. |
Hehe didn't want to fuss over this, I just wanted to say that in an ideal world, when someone doesn't like certain types of games and doesn't want his credibility to be undermined, the best approach would be to stick to the favourite genre(s) and avoid something that can't be properly analyzed because of the lack of knowledge/experience.
The other side of the coin though is the fact that this way reviewers would face immediate extinction

Since Shadowrun I've decided that I wouldn't easily waste my time on turn-based games like this if it doesn't actually LOOK interesting.
In Shadowrun the stiff animations, uninteresting deaths, nonexistant gore, uberstatic environment, ultra-linearity, uninteresting+limited character upgrading and tiring text-driven story/dialogue showed me that my taste has changed.
I have played the KOTOR and Mass Effect games, Dragon Age, the Witcher games, Game of Thrones RPG, Mars War Logs, the Fallout games, Oblivion,Skyrim ... it's hard to go back to low budget non-amazing RPGs. They feel cheap, amateurish and bore me, I uninstalled Shadowrun after a couple of hours

I actually liked Shadowrun Returns' style of graphics. Clean and nice contrast. Sure the animations weren't of the highest quality but the game still looks and plays good in my opinion. Music is fantastic too.

Couldn't agree more. What little I played of the WL2 alpha/beta really paled in comparison to SRR, at least in terms of atmosphere/style. I'm really looking forward to WL2 but I do think madness has a point; I'm not really seeing what WL2 has that D:OS doesn't, considering the money.

And there are no actual armor models, they are just contextual...

That different armor doesn't affect how the character model looks is pretty shitty for a game that is supposed to be all about those characters. I believe generic and bland is a good description of their visual representation in the game. I missed that specifically about SR:R, too, but at least that game had some visual changes.

I couldn't find a definitive answer from searching around a bit about the subject but it seems a lot of fans are for having visible armor (Perhaps with the option to toggle it's display.) but there was no direct answer from a developer or such.
Possibly a later build could include it or it might be limited to the end-game power armor.
(Would be nice if all suits of armor had different appearances though.)

They didn't have to time to put this in, but instead claim that the world map is now twice as large as promised? I'd rather have proper itemization and updated visualization of the characters you're supposed to spend 97% of your game time controlling. Oh well.

Armor doesn't change appearance but there are slots for head/torso/legs that do. However in the current beta this system seems to be unfinished, since the only clothes you have available are the ones you start with. Maybe this week's update will introduce some new ones you can find or buy at merchants.
