I wouldn't really mind a Deus Ex MMO, if it was unique the way Secret World is... Where quests and storytelling is important and you actually have to read and figure shit out. Sure, Secret World has its problems but as far as being an MMO goes, it's easily one of the best and most unique ones you can play.

Not saying the Deus Ex MMO has to have the same mechanics or anything like that, just that it needs to be unique and do it's own thing. I have no idea how that would work or what it would look like but yeah. It being an MMO doesn't have to mean it's bad, it would just mean it'd most surely be bad. Sad

Yeah but what does it gain being MMO? They just waste time and resources in getting it work in multiplayer (both in technical and gameplay aspects), which means less time spent on crafting great singleplayer experience. The end result is a singleplayer game with compromises and MMO features tacked on - not a good singleplayer nor multiplayer experience.

If they kill my "Deus Ex 3 with even more awesome hubs" dream with an MMO, I'll hunt them down, one by one.

New details have emerged regarding Deus Ex: Universe, the Square Enix project announced last year as an “ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.”

Square Enix hasn’t elaborated on what these core games are, but we’ve been chatting to some insiders who have shared a few interesting bits of info.

According to one of our sources, Deus Ex: Universe was initially conceived as one huge game, but was split into a trilogy because the project was considered too ambitious.

Across these games, we're told that player decisions will be carried over in much the same manner as the Mass Effect trilogy. Indeed, the idea is to transfer even more info between instalments than BioWare’s celebrated sci-fi RPG series.

Our source also says that the core Deus Ex: Universe games will be coming to consoles, although Square Enix has already said that further “experiences” will be released for “other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc.”

The source adds that all of the information shared is accurate as of last year, but may be subject to change. In particular, the number of console games released under the Deus Ex: Universe banner could shift according to a variety of factors.

In addition to this, further information has emerged from a separate source who has seen promotional material for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, a trademark for which was filed by Square Enix back in March.

We’re told that the promotional material featured Deus Ex: Human Revolution star Adam Jensen and Deux Ex: The Fall protagonist Ben Saxon. Deus Ex: The Fall is a mobile (and Steam) title released last year.

As long as it's a self-contained, full on, single-player, mega epic THAT IS ON PC AT THE SAME DAMNED TIME AS XBONE/PS4, then I'll be content Smile

I know what they mean and I kinda like the idea of a trilogy, but the title of that news article still makes me a bit uncomfortable Very Happy

If they do make it that way, I just hope they'll leave the basic formula more or less as it was in DX3 - hub-based, open ended, detailed and giving the players lots of exploration options. Instead of going full-retard-moviezzz-likezzz-experienz!11!! real ME-style, I mean Razz And please, please, make the individual games larger than DX3 was. Don't let it be small and sliced to pieces just because the original idea had too big a scope.

The problem with DE3 was not with the design, it was engine limitation in large part. In short, that engine technology was shit for games like this.

Let's hope they go with Unreal. Perfect for this setting.

The studio has been hard at work, and we’re proud to announce today Dawn Engine™, our game engine designed exclusively for PCs and the new generation of consoles.

In the past, we’ve relied on existing engines for our games. But in the end, we found that our creative vision was somehow limited. So we decided it was time for us to invest in creating an engine tailored for our needs.

The result of this work is the Dawn Engine. Based on a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier™ 2 engine, it represents the beginning of a new era for us. Our ambition is to build upon and improve both the visual and immersive artistry in our games, whilst also strengthening both the gameplay and storytelling experiences we strive to create.

We wanted to share a first glimpse of what we aim to achieve, with a screenshot taken directly from the Dawn Engine. Keep in mind – despite any hints you may pick up from this image, this screenshot was only taken in order to display the level of detail and artistic fidelity that is possible with the Dawn Engine.

As you can imagine, the Dawn Engine will form the cornerstone for all Deus Ex Universe projects at Eidos-Montréal. Some of you have had concerns that “Universe” meant “MMO”. Rest assured, it does not.

Deus Ex Universe is the name we are giving to the fictional world and the rich lore we are creating for it, which will of course include core games, as well as any other projects that will help bring the world of Deus Ex to life. We won’t go into too much detail for now, but what we envision is for our projects do have meaningful ties to one another, in order for them to strengthen and deepen your experience within this Universe.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to say that we have several positions available at our studio! You can check them out on employment page.

We will be sharing much more in the coming months. In the meantime, you can follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with the latest updates.

Thank you all for your support!

I like it how they didn't put massive AA on it, makes me believe this is truly one ingame and not after touched to make it look better.

I have the feeling it will mean something like that, but for now I'm more worried about the game ending up in development hell like Thief did.

In a sense it is - looks like concept can be taken literally here. It seems they went for a stylized painted look with this one. DX:HR kinda looked like that as well though, so it might have been the idea all along. Artistic vision and all that...

I don't think so, I think it's an effect created by the jpeg compression and the fact that the scene has high contrasts.

At any rate, looks good, tho it's quite meaningless at this point. As someone said, any modern engine can output a scene like this, the question is... at which framerate?

Wish they'd ditch the piss filter. I thought they got rid of it in the Human Revolution Directors Cut.

Even if it's doctored (all the marketing-related pics are these days) I think it's safe to say that the Glacier 2 engine is a good choice, it was basically the only positive thing about Absolution Cool Face Very Happy

Focus on exploration and lots of different ways to achieve objectives, without silly forced cinematic-ity pl0x!

Too bad most of it will be scaled down for cunsoles (I think at least).

Well aren't you just sunshine and sparkles.

I found DX:HR to be quite enjoyable. Too many hacking opportunities wreaked havoc on my OCD's but other than that, there was nothing particularly wrong with it.
