As much as I would love this game to succeed in all its goals (the tangible ones, not the KS ones) and become something truly epic, I'm not convinced yet and frankly I'm still quite skeptical about the final result. So many question marks left, and the fact that my PC isn't quite up to the gigantic task definitely doesn't help me either Razz

They just keep announcing more and more features and I just don't know how it's all going to be possible. The dreams are big and there's no way in hell this is coming in 2015.

~edit~

SERIOUSLY!? The first question from the crowd is "where can we buy that shirt?" Facepalm

At least that one makes more sense than the fucking T-SHIRT Facepalm It seems to be an EVE player, looking at the corp/business side of Star Citizen. Opening a company that trades in... well... rare fish Neutral

Yes. It seems to be set way too sensitive right now. They need to increase the threshold of force before you start to black out.

Meh. Well I'm off to bed, fairly disappointed so far. About all I can say is that it is incredibly pretty.

God it looked AWESOME! I really feel sorry for Roberts that everything that could go wrong went wrong pretty much.. bet the haters gonna be all over this.

This would have been so much better off as a controlled in house event(maybe invite a few kickstarter backers for the playtest)

Heh quite disappointing but the game did look great from what little we saw. Yeah it sucks it didn't go smooth, and overall the presentation was an epic fail, but I'm still very much looking forward to it!

No seriously, I watched the whole thing, it was so bad. grinhurt

They were clearly not ready for this, tried to force it anyway, and this is what happens. It was like watching terrible presentations at college.

watched the last 5 min. don't really care until release, as that looked like a tech demo, nothing else.

The introductory video set the scene for the event. Going by that it obviously was not ready for public consumption.

Took a massive gamble showcasing it live for all to see and it backfired spectacularly.

okay first impressions played abit.. (fuck the gamepad... by the way) switched to keyboard and mouse ... did not have access to hotas.. sigh.. but K&B was very smooth.. all weapons
were "fixed variety" (no turrets) and missles.. it was ( for those of you that have played War Thunder) similiar but the Dm's and FM's were complete and accurate not sure how to describe
it but smooth keeps coming to mind... situational awareness will be huge ... target fixation will cost you dearly... graphics on the monitors which we played with were 1440p but
they had 2 side monitors which were 4k and good lord that was just amazing for detail...

Also was fortunate to spend a about an hour with there hardware guru .. Mike Gomes...
and he said the gaming machines had i7's at 4.1 (water cooled) only 16GB of ram (said even
with this un-optimized version the max memory it was using was 4.5Gb or so.. but he said
if you were planning on eyefinity 3 screens... 8- 16GB and would be good for memory..

also they were running 2 780's in sli but as it was not (as he said tuned for one GPU provider or another ) just that's what came with the alienware loaner systems.. on a funny note he said that these water cooled systems came with magnetic drives... a he put it .. definite WTF moment.. he had a crap load of SSD ( along with other pieces and parts) thaty he brought with him.. and said that they all had only a SSD (256GB one) no raid at all and that was more than enough for a hrad drive as it delivered content to memory plenty fast enough...

he said scalability was "frightening" as even now they could ramp up (un--optimzed ) to crush anything on the market but what we were seeing was maybe 50-60% what could be done presently .... so depending on how much you want space pron on 6 screens a t 4k .. they will be able to push it out eventually... but as he said on this build they were not even using 50% of the 780's in sli nor any where near as efficiently as they expect to.

The best conversation I had was with Erin Roberts.. extremely nice and gracious man.. with
one HUGE FLAW... (he's a MAN UNITED fan)... god almost makes me want to quit the game altogether Smile LIVERPOOL FOREVER.. by the way...

well I"ll probably edit this tomorrow to correct any rambling and incohoherence and flesh out my recollection and observations ... as right now those 8 maker's marks are really catching up to me... Smile

also a backer I met mention his clan was doing this:

The guy just gave and account of what he saw, what he experienced playing and what he was told by one of the devs @ PAX.

If anything, it's you who proved yourself a hater. How to take you seriously about this game from now on?

BTW, thanks for the promised impressions jrs2nd Wink

of liverpool sure.... nah just abit drunk... most of the conversations I had with
CIG folks were not related to the game...

you must take my impressions as "for something in pre-alpha" I played about 15 mins or so and for the guy before and after me it just worked .. for those who prefer it the gamepad worked very well..

it seemed the main problem was not with the "game state" but more on the back-end. not sure I liked the HUD style, but first person or cockpit view felt comfortable (outside of HUD clutter) although the more I think on it.. the smoothness I think was the lack of resistance or mushiness(word?) you get
when flying a flight or combat Sim from air resistance..

it went were I aimed it locked on when I wanted and the effects were good when I hit something... nice thing was doing a 180.. (flipping nose to tail thru yaw) and firing back at someone on my ass yawing back with very little loss of momentum.. there were a few frame-rate drops when the screen was cluttered with action, but at the time I thought it was do to damage to my craft and not the game itself..

the control scheme could be changed ( ie assign what ever to
whichever button you wanted) but there was not enough time to allow us to "setup" they keys the way you might prefer.. which made it a bit awkward controlling for the first 5 mins or so as I was constantly double checking I was hitting the right commands... game pad users had a nice command layout picture right under the screen which they could refer to so it was "easier" to
jump right in...

a lot of the damage states and fx seemed generic (placeholders maybe) while
others were wow that was neat...(guessing when complete will be nice ) half of the fights were like LOCK-ON 10 miles out BVR or near so... while others were down and dirty War Thunder 300 yds away furballs.. tracking was nice
multiple target , select , lockon, and launch, select another... defensive screens flared when hit, and disappeared when overwhelmed... ion trail from main engine was nice ....

ok I'm definitely rambling.. I'm going to be the walking dead at work in 5 hours time....

yeah actually four or five did but he ignored them... one said he get his name and make a point of putting a bounty on him in game... which I though was funny
