Dark souls has some sharp as fuck textures, using dsfix put your res to high values and go check undead burg. Most of the environments looks amazing texture quality wise, same for most of the armor sets, shields and other items.
Obviously there will be some lower res stuff like on screenshot above, which shows something thats not visible during normal gameplay, its only shown in a cutscene.
Anyway DS its not big ass AAA title with huge budget, also it has to maintain playable fps on x year old consoles (ps3/360). If someone thinks it will have some amazing gfx options in PC version should get a reality check. I will be suprised if DS2 will have proper 16:10 support (I use 1920x1200), and i dont expect it to be playable with kb/m either.
One way or the other someone will probably mod the gfx and we always will have stuff like sweetFX.

That is high values, that's as high as it'll go
Having played the game for around 18 hours over the past few days I'm not sure what you guys are referring to, the game is as maxed out as I can make it go + sweetFX @ 1440p and it's nothing special
Select screenshots that make it look good are no better than those that make it look bad, the difference is it looks bad more than it looks good. Distant land always looks horrible as do most environment textures. Perhaps the likes of ARMA3/Crysis3/MetroLL have spoiled me.

Nobody is saying that it is or should. The only way someone would get the impression that it'd 'have some amazing gfx' is by reading posts like KC's in this thread. |
dunno what are you talking about really, just look at the KC screenshots posted above. anyway, you can take the good or bad looking screens in every game, obviously.

marcus is to "safe" with those statements, there were already tons of gameplay on yt with opinions and devs already said they dont really mind it (every major gamesite did some impressions already)

I posted screenshots from different parts of the game to prove that it dont only look good in one or two areas. Sure there are some drawbacks but generally, detail and lighting engine works fantastic for me IMO

sure i wont, have better things to do than explaining to you how to set up ini or 'where should you take screens' lol. your serious tone makes it even more funny.
someone else wrote that it has poor textures, obviously it doesnt. sure it may lacking in some engine features but not in term of texture quality itself. but i have no reason to go on and convince you, why should i.

I don't know how it is for others, but for me tech alone means nothing. For me the best looking game last year was Castlevania, not any of the hardware hungry games. Why? Because tech-wise it looks good enough (well, the lighting is actually really good, expected considering who made it!) to put on the screen the incredible art direction (don't even know if it's the right way to say what I mean to say, but whatever). And I do believe textures in general look really good in Dark Souls, even though I played it very little. That doesn't mean all textures, of course. That way, Crysis looks like crap too.

Dark Souls has amazing armor and beautifull art direction, but from the technical standpoint the graphics are average at best most of the time. Most of the people are impressed how much better the game looks when modded, compared to vanilla. But better doesn't mean great. It went from crap to decent (technic-wise). People are so defensive about the game.

I just don't get it why do you even start discussing the graphics in a game with some of the best gameplays ever. The guys spent like 3/5 of they budget on making this gameplay. Do you think it would be so amazing if they spent 4/5 on graphics instead? Games like Crysis with best current graphics are remembered for 2-3 years. The games like Dark Souls with best gameplay are never forgotten. Stop thinking why that flower isn't made of 235236437374 pixels and start thinking how to kill the next enemy without taking a single hit.

Not been paying attention to the thread, so question might already have been asked:
DS2 using Steamworks? I'm tempted to pre-order the retail disc from Amazon, but won't bother if it's not Steam.

Pretty sure they use Steamworks (Instead of LIVE) plus it's centralized servers now instead of peer-network multiplayer or what it's called.
