From what I can tell in those screenshots it still has a lot of detail but like the first game the actual texture resolution is kinda low although armor is pretty detailed. Smile

At least now we shouldn't need to worry about being locked to 720P although I guess as with Revengeance we'll get the same assets as the console version with possibly some tweaks like AA, AF or higher shadow resolution?

Then again all we've seen so far is console footage I believe.
(There's been a few 1920x1080 screens though but that doesn't have to mean it's from PC.)

EDIT: Where was that next-gen article about the game? Ah here.
http://www.edge-online.com/news/could-dark-souls-ii-go-next-gen-we-have-not-put-any-thought-into-this-yet-says-from-software/
(Then again that would probably only be valid for the XBoxOne and PlayStation4)

Dark souls has some sharp as fuck textures, using dsfix put your res to high values and go check undead burg. Most of the environments looks amazing texture quality wise, same for most of the armor sets, shields and other items.

Obviously there will be some lower res stuff like on screenshot above, which shows something thats not visible during normal gameplay, its only shown in a cutscene.

Anyway DS its not big ass AAA title with huge budget, also it has to maintain playable fps on x year old consoles (ps3/360). If someone thinks it will have some amazing gfx options in PC version should get a reality check. I will be suprised if DS2 will have proper 16:10 support (I use 1920x1200), and i dont expect it to be playable with kb/m either.

One way or the other someone will probably mod the gfx and we always will have stuff like sweetFX.

Dark Souls 1 looks fantastic. Here are some of my screenshots (alredy posted them like 2 months ago in ss thread)

I am only hoping ds2 will look as good on pc. It will be hard for it to look better than this tho !

Everyone is asking for impressions that I'm not allowed to give yet. What I can say: Dark Souls 2 is awesome. I like it a lot more than 1.

That is high values, that's as high as it'll go

Having played the game for around 18 hours over the past few days I'm not sure what you guys are referring to, the game is as maxed out as I can make it go + sweetFX @ 1440p and it's nothing special

Select screenshots that make it look good are no better than those that make it look bad, the difference is it looks bad more than it looks good. Distant land always looks horrible as do most environment textures. Perhaps the likes of ARMA3/Crysis3/MetroLL have spoiled me.

Nobody is saying that it is or should. The only way someone would get the impression that it'd 'have some amazing gfx' is by reading posts like KC's in this thread.

dunno what are you talking about really, just look at the KC screenshots posted above. anyway, you can take the good or bad looking screens in every game, obviously.

marcus is to "safe" with those statements, there were already tons of gameplay on yt with opinions and devs already said they dont really mind it (every major gamesite did some impressions already)

I posted screenshots from different parts of the game to prove that it dont only look good in one or two areas. Sure there are some drawbacks but generally, detail and lighting engine works fantastic for me IMO

sure i wont, have better things to do than explaining to you how to set up ini or 'where should you take screens' lol. your serious tone makes it even more funny.

someone else wrote that it has poor textures, obviously it doesnt. sure it may lacking in some engine features but not in term of texture quality itself. but i have no reason to go on and convince you, why should i.

Yep, Right up there. AW is fantastic game and it looks gorgeous ! I can post screenshots if You want Laughing
and those Dark Souls screenshots are 60fps gameplay. Just hud turned off but no other changes from how I play the game. With dsfix, turning off hud is just one button

If the game looks incredible to them, then obviously they haven't played the plethora of other games that look better, therefore having nothing better looking to compare it to.

I don't know how it is for others, but for me tech alone means nothing. For me the best looking game last year was Castlevania, not any of the hardware hungry games. Why? Because tech-wise it looks good enough (well, the lighting is actually really good, expected considering who made it!) to put on the screen the incredible art direction (don't even know if it's the right way to say what I mean to say, but whatever). And I do believe textures in general look really good in Dark Souls, even though I played it very little. That doesn't mean all textures, of course. That way, Crysis looks like crap too.

Amazomg texture work detailz

Clearly you have some sort of attachment to this game that prevents you from saying anything that could be deemed negative towards it, but open your eyes. That's as good as I can make it look and it still looks average.

Better yet; tell me where it does look good and I'll go there and take shots too. They won't be carefully shot then picked apart either.

Yeah, this game has some horrible textures here and there. Luckily i don't care about such things. Not in a game that's all about the gameplay such as this Razz

Dark Souls has amazing armor and beautifull art direction, but from the technical standpoint the graphics are average at best most of the time. Most of the people are impressed how much better the game looks when modded, compared to vanilla. But better doesn't mean great. It went from crap to decent (technic-wise). People are so defensive about the game.

I just don't get it why do you even start discussing the graphics in a game with some of the best gameplays ever. The guys spent like 3/5 of they budget on making this gameplay. Do you think it would be so amazing if they spent 4/5 on graphics instead? Games like Crysis with best current graphics are remembered for 2-3 years. The games like Dark Souls with best gameplay are never forgotten. Stop thinking why that flower isn't made of 235236437374 pixels and start thinking how to kill the next enemy without taking a single hit.

Not been paying attention to the thread, so question might already have been asked:

DS2 using Steamworks? I'm tempted to pre-order the retail disc from Amazon, but won't bother if it's not Steam.

Pretty sure they use Steamworks (Instead of LIVE) plus it's centralized servers now instead of peer-network multiplayer or what it's called.
