Yeah, it's really good..when it works and doesn't mess all your other combat modules Razz Sadly the version that was up on the site was very very work in progress and incompatible with a lot of stuff.
Hope it will get released in a future that is not too remote, but with mods you never know Laughing

they look good, but the old version the pines look more varied and not a copy pasta to the eyes. Prob cause of the snow build up on them that does that. If you see what I mean.

yeah they're slightly more varied, but it's not like pines with heavy snow look that varied anyways hehe.. i've watched a lot of photos for references, saw lots of forests where it looks like one tree has been cloned all over the place, even almost exact same height etc.

Is there any tutorial of what mods to use to improve skyrim? There are so many that I don't know what to try out and I would love to give it one more go. Tks

Your trees look good, but real pine trees actually looks quite different from one another. It's just that your brain tricks you into thinking they're very similar.

A whole bunch of exactly the same natural object is a cardinal sin in 3D art. It's actually for that reason that Bethesda's originals are so asymmetrical to begin with -- so that they can be rotated and scaled a bit to give the illusion that there are a bunch of different trees.

And I think the big reason the cloning syndrome shows up so much in your trees is that they're a little too perfect. I think if you tweaked the branches a bunch it would look nicer. The branches just show up as a bunch of identical lines, and I think that's more likely what creates the kinda "off" feeling. It actually looks like you used one of those plugins that generates a tree (which is fine), in which case manually tweaking the rotation/scale of some of the branches might help.

EDIT: Added an image to illustrate the diagonal lines problem. Not that they don't exist in the Bethesda version:

Obviously real pines arent 100% clones. It's really easy to spot the Bethesda clones in the above pic too though. But you're right that rotating and also changing height can make trees less clone-like, this is common practice when creating a forest. Bethesda has been very sloppy with that.

I've just done 3 pines and there's 5 in total, so 2 are copies.. this is the first version so it will get better Wink

Also, nature is actually quite perfect, it's easy to think that branches grows just randomly on a tree, but they follow a fractal pattern. It's very hard to mimic realistic growth of branches manually, that's why i always try to use tree generators and then i do very slight adjustments.. Seen documentaries about this and it's quite stunning how perfect and almost mechanical they grow Smile

Well, I think we can all agree that Bethesda's trees look nothing at all like pine trees hehe.

But yeah, looking forward to a more complete version.

And with regard to the semi-random appearance of real trees, that probably stems from minor environmental differences such as sunlight, soil, etc. Which is why a forest of real trees will all appear to be different if you look close enough. Achieving that level of detail is entirely outside the hands of human art though, and we wont get that until a really powerful computer meets a really clever algorithm.

really odd.. this new version comes with a new bark texture for that tree (vurt_pbarksnowy.dds) so it shouldnt be missing, check for it in landscape/textures/trees to see if its there.

yeah this is an ongoing thing, i've just spent 1 evening / night so far with those trees.. the half snowy trees are next, then i'm redoing the green pines too..

v0.2 is out btw Wink

i tried that cloud mod, it was terrible imo.. the clouds popped in really ugly.. would be cool to be able to see them in the distance. this was months ago though, maybe it's been improved.

Not all mods are created because something in the game is bad though, many mods are created just because people wants something different after playing the game for a long period.

And some are created because some people just like ponies and tentacle porn in their games. Laughing

Dude, it's not big deal, I just stack some +% one-handed equipment and can do massive damage for my level.

hi there.

since most of the people in this thread spent a great amount of time modding this game, i need to ask a question.
i am experiencing extreme slowdowns at some points with the current set of mods that i have installed. i'm pretty sure that its one of the mods, since the game runs ok in vanilla and also the game runs smoothly 90% of the time with the mods, im talking about 60 fps at least.
unfortunately, at some points the fps drop down to 1 fps. this happens either at specific locations, or sometimes when fighting. for example, the game is pretty unplayable around Ivarstead.

as you can see in the screenshot below, i tried some fixes, but they did not help much, so I disabled them for now. additionally, i tried unloading some mods, but this is a bit difficult, as some of them need to be activated in specific order and because of this, trying the game with certain mods disabled becomes really time consuming.

could you please take a look at the screenshot and advise if there is a certain mod, which is known to decrease performance? i personally am starting to think it might be the SMIM, but i really don't want to loose another day in installing and uninstalling mods, i'd rather play the game.
