Why not? It was the same for X2 and X3 too Very Happy I reckon coming back to this in 6-12 months will yield a right gem, but for now it just seems fundamentally broken :\

Sad

some more stupidity :

so there are drones in this games. right. So, you can control some of them yourself, good.

Now there is something called "smart defense" , which sends out all drones capable of doing something on their own (fight etc). All fine.

Now the kicker :

YOU CAN'T RECALL THEM.

Yes, there is no button/key/shortcut for it.

oh and :

Game being a failed console game half-assedly pushed onto PC pretty much confirmed.

A guy on reddit found some stuff.

wasn't too surprising tbh the game screams it out without needing to look at the code it's a halfassed job and a sore excuse for a franchise as X

It's way way simpler but I'll just stick with Oolite. Hopefully either Star Citizen (not optimistic on that one) or Elite Dangerous (more optimistic but still skeptical) will fulfill my pseudo space sim wishes beyond what Oolite can do.

1.13 only has a few fixes but maybe the upcoming patches 1.14 today and 1.15 tomorrow will have some more improvements. (From their forums, seems they are updating daily now.)

I don't think this proves that Rebirth was a failed console game or it was supposed to be a X360/PS3 version of it. Some dev kits or other software by default create this kind of xbox code patterns.

That way, they'd be done by the time mankind develops FTL travel and it could be a really quaint nostalgia-trip game Wink

The biggest problem of this game is the universe size it is tiny compared to previous x games. How can u play a free mode in a matchbox universe? the freedom is limited. Sad

well, it's their own engine. And the game itself is prove enough, that it was made for console. Everything in the game, from controls to menus etc. is made for a controller.

the universe itself isn't really small. Not sure how it compares to x3, but it's far from small. The problem is, the stations are all so packed together (instead of spread out like in x3) that you won't spend a lot of time anywhere else. Imagine a 100km x 100km zone, but everything is packed into a 5x5 zone in the middle of it.

If it was made for a console there would be an automatic UI Scale or at least some option for it. Also a lot of X3 fans asked for 360 controller support the previous years. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty sure they have in mind a future console release but this is different from the statement that the game was made for consoles.
Dev created engine doesn't mean they won't use 3rd party toolkits.

Chris Roberts on Star Citizen's future.
Quote:
“Star Citizen IS a PC game. It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.”
Presumably he said it because the internet crown has been pestering him too much about future selling out for consoles. Saying it just after X-Stillbirth came out with universal condemning for it's severe case of consolitis has nothing to do with it. Very Happy

Still looking for the patch note which says they actually tried playing the game.

I don't think there's any single aspect of the game that isn't riddled with bugs. Granted, even completely bug free it would still be highly inferior to X3, but it would be a start.

They have a few pinned topics on the Steam forums now. Smile

Ongoing work with the game.

4) Performance improvements: It seems ironic that most customers who are particularly dissatisfied with performance are those with the fastest computers. This may partly be because we made no special attempt to optimise for fast PCs. It even seems as though the most extreme high-end PCs barely have higher framerates than mid-range ones. We will be tackling this issue aggresively and will be stocking up on high end hardware for tests, to try out things like SLI and hex-core systems. Of course optimisations will also benefit other systems. Tips for configuration are in my post on the Steam forum and in the Egosoft Support forum.

Performance.
(This one I don't quite understand, "only" 6 GB of RAM for example yet the game is 32bit and can't use more than 4 GB max leaving 2 GB for the OS which is more than enough.)

You can activate a flag in the 32bit executable which enables it to use more RAM though. Presumably it's activated by default here. Was a common trick with their other games to enable better performance.
