regestry edit it this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\VID_124B&PID_4D01]
"OEMName"="XXXX"
VID is your controller
change this to the controler you want it to be. 'Gamepad Pro USB' works great for me

I'm fucking pissed, look what I found on Ea's NHL 2006 boards:
Look what those bastards did. They changed without notice the minimum specs on their website. Just take a look under support for "What are the minimum requirements?"
*
Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating systems.
*
1 GHz Intel Pentium III or equivalent with SSE.
*
256 MB or more RAM.
*
At least 1.7 GB free hard disk space.
*
Supported DirectX 9.0c compatible 3D accelerated 32 MB video card.
*
56K or faster connection for online play.
I'm forever done with EA, they operate in the industry like nasty theifs. They began to lie sayin' that it was a problem with our graphic drivers, chipset drivers, directx..name it. We lost money and precious time figuring out ourselves what was the problem and when they had no choice to admit it, they stabbed us in the back by updating the min specs without our knowledge. What happens now to folks who had bought the game with the wrong specs and to those who will buy the same boxes currently on the shelves...NOTHING..we got screwed..we should sue the bastards

has to be a name for a controller the game supports. like i said "Gamepad Pro USB" works like a charm for me, or "Logitech Dual Action Pro" etc. just make sure you change the right VID key. Just check Controllers in the control panel and look what name it says, then go through the different VID's until you see your controller. Mine was the last one....

just check a readme.txt from any ea game and you can use any controller that is listed in there (under supported controllers) just copy'n'paste the name. PSX controller 16 buttons? they only have 12 ...... L1/2/3, R1/2/3, O, X, triangle, square, start, select.....

You guys are dumb, I have a T-Bird 1Ghz that I use as a server and I tested it with NHL06 and it ran very well... I don't think T-Birds have SSE... Anyway, work your ass off and buy yourself a new cpu.

|
 |
oki....now im actuallyn a lil pissed off....i unplugged my dear sweet psx2 controllers, and i inserted my microsoft sidewinder gamepab USB....And i just dont get it...HOW DO I CHANGE THE LINES MANUALLY??? it works fine when im using the keyboard....but other then that it is just totally f.o.c.k.e.d.
I mean...the microsoft sidewinder gamepad is an ol trustworthjy gamepad.
..but it just doesnt work. The scrolling in the menus did however
stop when i unplugged the psx controls. But its kind of pointless
if i can not change the lines. PLZ tell me how the heck u do to change
ur lines manually? When i press the modifier button on the sidewinder
gamepad along with the D-pad its got...nothing happens except i control my
character. WHen i press button 10 (center button, marked with
a single . on it) i pull my focking goalie!!!!
I just dont get it? wtf r u supposed to do to be able to change the lines
manuallyyy??? *tearing off big chunks of hair in desperation*

|
 |
oki....so....i figured it out.
I have an old gamepad thats half broken, called firestorm dual power 2 (not supported according to the .txt, but it worx)
so i plugged it in, n it worx to change the lines by pressing the
modifier and using the d-pad.
Now the only mystery remains as to why i cant get my
EMS to work with my psx2 controllers. But for now im
happy bein able to change the lines again! Now, when i use the
psx2 i can not use the D-pad when i have activated the analogue
sticks. And i guess u need both to be able to change the lines manually.
So...ill try out some of the names n hope for the best.
ow...thx guys for the help....forum used as groupware worx!
share the knowledge!!! wohoo (geez thats geeky:p)

hmmm it still doesnt work with the EMS
if it worx....does the menu stop "looping" when u start the game?
nyway i wonder why? i dunno if im writing it correctly in the registry
can u give me some exact examples as to what i can write?
i have tried the following:
Gamepad Pro USB
Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power 3
Logitech Rumble Pad 2
I have typed it EXACTLY the way it is typed above...
u think ive missed a comma or something? i dunno....
Isnt there something u can write that states its the ps2 controller or
that its an EMS with 2 controllers at one USB port?
ow...btw the 16 buttons are: triangle, Square, circle, Cross,
4 buttons (D-pad), L1, L2, R1, R2, select, start,
pressin down analouge left and pressin down analogoue right (as buttons)
= 16

well...ive tried upgradin the drivers for the ems
u can select between advanced and normal mode for both the
D-pad and the analogue sticks.
analouge: no difference either way.
D-pad: when switched to advanced mode it crashes the game on startup.
I dunno if thats the key...but i hope im getting somewhere now...
let me know if this has happened to others usin the EMS

I have a Saitek Cyborg RumbleForce P2500 game controller and am having problems using it in this game. Everytime I try to grab/skate with the puck, my player will just start twirling around and around and lose the puck. This gamepad is apparently supported by this game. Any ideas??
Thanks!

ahhh....found a fix for the Saitek Cyborg controller issue....hope it works:
for those of you using Saitek's p880 gamepad, you need to apply this fix:
I have a fix for you P880 guys
Click start/run/regedit and browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\Joystick\OEM\
There you will see a bunch of folders named something like VID_1038&PID_0100, open each of them until you see Saitek P880 listed on the right hand side of the screen in the OEMName category.
Now double click on OEMName, a new box will pop up with the controller name inside, rename it to Logitech Dual Action, click ok and exit regedit. That should get rid of the spinning.

back to the game itself.
anyone else having the computer just one-timing like crazy?
they just rush down the side and center the pass and have the other winger or center blast it on net and that's all they do!
I find i gotta just let the guy go down the side and i'll just run interference on whoever is in front of the net.
anyways, good game otherwise

They do quite a few one timers. However, after watching the pre-season, thats more realisitc than we give it credit for. Just need to call more penalties.

Yuh, I suppose, but it's a pain in the ass trying to defend against it.

Sweet, if you are on the PP and send it back to a defenceman to one-time a shot on net you'll notice one of your forwards will head toward the net to redirect it.
The fact that you can do a one-timer slapshot in this version is enough to make me weep with joy, they make awesome replays when you score with one.

I must say initially I'm unimpressed with this. I've had it for awhile and just got into it. On easy, I destroy a team like 15 to 4....
up it to medium, and I get blown away by at least the same amount..thats hardly appropriate difficulty ramping.
What happened to games that would even begin to resemble a real hockey game? is it that hard to create? 111 shots a game, 250 body checks..never even close...
