Yeah, use slow-down power-ups with pistols. katarina's Ice Touch is helping too.

Did you use the three initial gems on the statue in the first town in chapter #1 to get the key?
(If the key actually has a use by now.)

Finished it. Like it a lot even though it got a bit boring in the second half. I guess that's why I usually don't play many aRPG's, too much grinding through hordes of enemies... Still liked this one more than say Torchlight.

It's good. But nothing special. It lets you revisit the Orichalcum mines which has lvl 31 mobs and Gallowsbog with lvl 32 mobs.

Dunno if i am playing this wrong, but on hard difficulty melee character is like this "hit one time, run and repeat". Feels absolutely weak at start (in the swamp areas, havent played at all, so much games atm).

Played through with a melee char on hard as well. With potions and the healing spell, you shouldn't have a problem. But yeah, occassionaly you do need to run away for a bit.
Depends on how you built your character, but the most trouble I got there was from ranged enemies with an elemental attack, since my elemental resistance was low.
Did you enchant your gear at the Romani camp? Did you take The Sword in the stone, that sword is pretty great in those starting areas.

Thanks for the answer. I'll try it later, since I did get a bit bored towards the end.

You have to use powerups. I'm sure there are many different tactics but personally I had Cleave skill with a power up that heals me for each enemy I hit. So when I was low at HP that was my go-to skill. It was an instant full health heal (provided you hit multiple enemies). Once I had that skill I didn't need to use run and gun tactics.
Also the default heal skill is useful to upgrade early on.
-----
But I found the game to be difficult on normal in those starting areas, on hard even those tactics might not work.

Works fine on hard too, exactly what I'm doing
I'm actually spamming mana pots rather than healing pots. Just cleave non-stop and hit space if HP drops; I took the 50% damage powerup as well, so my power up is 2xHeal (10% of max HP for each enemy) and 1xDamage. Need to note that I did put some points into parry as well, Katarina's skills are mostly geared to reducing damage on me.
I do need to move out of the strike area with those big motherfuckers in Gallowsbog, but you got like 1.5s to do that and you don't have to run away, just go stand beside them

Wow is the drill worm broken on heroic or something? talking about patch 1.1. The worm itself had 6.5k hp which is fine but the spiders that show up all had 2.5k to 4k+ health. they were basically unkillable, even if you ran them through falling debris. i ran this before as melee, hardcore heroic and one shot it...i restarted on just heroic as a caster build and died 28 times to kill it.
the melee run i did on a prior patch, i remember killing the spiders regularly and dont remember them having so much hp.

The Drill Worm broke when they released the last big patch. The spiders were Way overpowered. They released a small patch Sunday afternoon that fixed it.
