You're probably not alone Smile
I got all the relics and stuff that open the story background but I hated collecting the rather useless GPS caches (unlocking concept art is boring).
If I don't get bored, I'll collect them all but I'm sure it won't happen anytime soon.

You get two strange notes for collecting all the GPS caches, I am unsure what they actually mean though. Smile
(First one after collecting most of them and then the second note when you've found them all.)

Nope, you're not the only one. Smile I never started a main mission until I collected everything and raided every tomb etc., and I agree- it gives you a break from the hurpa durp gameplay. Smile

Haha! Very Happy That was me exactly. Samantha was crying out loud for help in the radio. "Oh my God, Lara! Please help me! They have kidnapped me and I feel something horrible is going to happen!"

And I was like: Reaction Let's get all the relics. Focused

Btw, I've been wondering why Lara's face in the game is so different than the one in the promo posters, like the one you set as your avatar here.

My theory is:

a) Consoles don't have enough horsepower to achieve that level of detail.

The above is a render of Lara from CGI trailer someone posted on NeoGAF in a thread dedicated to TressFX discussion to juxtapose* hair rendering. It's clearly observable that the mesh is immensely detailed, with multilayer sub-surface scattering engaged to produce realistic skin/complexion. Maybe simplifying character model had its share in altering the features, therefore producing a slightly different look...

(*Yes, there is such word in English. Very Happy I'm aware since yesterday.)

b) That was deliberate. The original CGI Lara had too much of an aggressive look to her face, appearing too self-confident, too strong and self-contained. IMO that didn't suit the storyline so well.

Lara's face in final game seems more sweet, cute; with smoother features portraying her as an innocent young girl in the need of player's protection. You can clearly see this in a screen I borrowed from KillerCrocker's without any asking for permission, thus violating intellectual property and several copyright laws.

Some producer probably thought she would get necessary sympathy quicker that way. (Moreover, it helps to prevent from sexualizing her. Cool Face)

In some screens, having a flat nose and wider cheeks, she even resembles Camilla herself. Not very closely, but still.

PS: IMO the original Lara was hotter. Mad

PPS: Every time I see the first picture, it always makes me chuckle a bit because of some guy on NeoGAF who posted he wanted to "french-kiss" that Lara. Weird enough, it's not even the idea of french-kissing a CGI woman that seems so funny, but rather the term itself. I just can't get it out of my mind now. Laughing Brutal Legend didn't help either. Well I'm almost finished with the game and I must say that while I liked it in the beginning, later on in the game it gets worse and over the top waaay too much. Tomb Rambo would be a more fitting name for this game.

Games go through countless changes before the developers settle on a particular style, setting and feature-set – for instance, BioShock was initially a game about a cult deprogrammer, while Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 was originally a knockabout karting game starring Jack Nicklaus and Rory McIlroy and Donkey Kong. The recent Tomb Raider reboot is no exception. In an alternate universe, we’re playing a game featuring horse-riding, a child companion, oh and giant colossi that burst out of the Earth. Yep – Tomb Raider was originally Shadow of the Colossus 2, as revealed in the game’s Making Of thing.

Other titbits: the game was originally subtitled Tomb Raider: Ascension, before Kratos from God of War sent Crystal Dynamics a very angry cease-and-desist letter attached to a wriggling Gorgon head. Maybe. There were also flamethrowers, more open environments, and a giant untextured carrot lurking menacingly behind a little girl. Here is proof of that awful thing:

-image-

You’ll find all this and more in the video below, and in this thread over on NeoGAF. As for the Tomb Raider we eventually got, be sure to check out our review.

1. Was there a “hunger” mechanic at any point? 2. Any plans for additional missions/tombs?

1. We steered away from hunger pretty early for pacing reasons. We did however have it tied to the health system much farther into development, but never got it to a point where it was a fun gameplay loop. Hunting still does effect Lara’s strength as a character through the XP system, but this allows players to have a more optional relationship with the system.

2. Currently no plans.

Hunger mechanics and survival would have broken the pew, but hey you still get XP lol wut

Multiplayer once again came up, with Karl talking about where the idea came from:

The decision to do a multiplayer actually came from Crystal. We truly believe that it was and is the right decision to make. We looked to the future of where MP is heading and made the call to begin the process of setting the foundations. Everyone has to start somewhere and this is our first time.

Next up, was Square Enix quick to jump onboard this reboot:

We had already begun the reboot back in the Eidos days, and when SE purchased Eidos, they loved the direction we were taking the game and fully supported our vision.
...
In terms of where we go next, we cannot answer too directly, but now that Lara has survived the Island she can follow the clues that she found on the Island. In terms of the non-linear spaces, we were really happy with this aspect of the design and how it catered to player-driven exploration. This is something we are excited to continue and evolve.

There will be a sequel

Still I think the game is great. Combat is actually OK, a lot better than the Unhcarted Series. probably thanks to mouse and bow. Exploration is fun and I wish there would be more of it. The scripting is good too, but Uncharted is maybe better. The environments are great, though Uncharted 2 had better and Uncharted 3 had comparable. QTE sucks.

I'm at 84% now, mastering almost every locations, so I havent finished yet.

The lead was the X360, the PS3 port was done by Nixxes and yet the PS3 port is better according to digital foundry.

Despite all the time constraints to port every new build Crystal was sending them, and working with "inferior" hardware, Nixxes' version beats Crystal's.

Should tell you a thing or do about the work Nixxes puts into porting. Wink

Nixxes also did the late PS3 port of TRU. It ran at average 10% worse but with a 50% higher resolution and better shadows, looking much more crisper. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/xbox-360-vs-ps3-face-off-round-17-article?page=4

You get returned to one of the base camps and can now explore the (mostly empty) island to gather any missed collectibles.
(Thus unlocking more notes and XP upgrade possibilities.)

Yeah but that's only a couple of guys for an area, nothing like the numbers you encounter during the story.
