All the complaining it is a very good game just that the maps are wayy to small.
Maybe they will add bigger maps as dlc?

well it is *fundamentally* a great game, as in, it's a city building game, which is a great thing.
Just everything else about it sucks.

In defence of their "online vision":
Yesterday I started a new region which was quickly joined by Silent Lurker. We started out cities almost simultaneous. I started this region because I got lot's of pollution messages in my other city while having no coal or oil powerplant, nor much heavy industry. So if your neighbour pollutes his air, you will also be faced with it. If you want to build the perfect city, you have to work together on achieving this. Keeping your air clean, by improving the tech level on your industry. Sure, I still think this game should be playable offline, but this is how things work in real life too.
So, into the new game: When I started, I focussed on building my road grid first (which drained all my cash). I also didn't want to dump my sewage out in the open either. Luckily for me, my neighbouring city had sewage treatment and electricity already going. So I could buy those services from Lurker, allowing my sims to move in and pay some taxes to me.
A little later in the game when the cash flow was good, I built a police department, fire station and clinic. I shared half of them with my neighbour in case things got out of hand over there. On chat, he already said my police cars where catching criminals in his town (So I assume he didn't have those built yet). This is a great way in showing how you can work together. One town focusses on power and sewage, the other on healthcare and security. A little later, I was notified Lurkers town was faced with a tornado, so i quickly shared all my ambulances with him. Luckily there were only a few people injured and no serious damage.
So our cities expanded and so we are able to expand our town halls which gives you advanced buildings like schools, sewage treatment or bigger police stations etc. Knowing what my neighbour would build, I built a different department so we both would benefit from each others upgrade.
So, while the global trade system may still be down, I do honestly feel this way of online multiplayer contributes to the depth of this game. And even more once they got their servers up and running properly. While I had several neighbours in previous regions, this was the first time I started a city at the same time as my neighbour. And it was good fun.

and you can do all that offline by jumping back and forth between all cities..
since the cities are so small, anything to extend the play time of a city would be good.

With enough room to develop, time and subsequently money, you could aswell take care of those problems all by yourself. This is more like a coop-mode with small cities than anything else. I guess its fun to you. Personally, I prefer laying out and planning my Mega-City on my nicely terraformed region all by myself.
The way I see it, a feature-cut, more streamlined online coop mode, would have been a nice addition to a fully simulated, (instead of fake citizen shit) and mature city developer game with proper terraforming tools and a modern interface.
The lies they began with, saying you needed the cloud for processing, are enough for me to tell, their only "vision" was money. Though I believe the game is fun, it still looks pretty dumbed down. And with all the fake nubers of sims, the way the engine handles a lot of things (as seen in numerous reviews), the game just wont cut it for me.
And certainly not at 60€ plus dlc and microtransactions. Sorry but No. Never. I dont even feel like wanting to play the game. I am just really sorry, they destroyed yet another franchise.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I'd rather have both options... Hey for just 22 euro's (and possible another free game) I'm not complaining |
Ja,
Working together is quite fun.
I had started a "solo" region at first but now I am afraid to feel "alone" while playing.
I must admit I start to like this multiplayer part of the game (don't read online DRM please).
Plus knowing others can visit and see your city it make you willing to do something nice rather than efficient only ^^
Still I have a problem with my city on NFOhump #3, it keep crashing every now and then.
On NFO#4 I wanted to try a residential city (commercial, tourism only, no industries) it works quiet well, I see some of my residents going to Jarlian's city to find work.
Also I am working hard to reduce pollution to the minimum as planned.
I am waiting for the traffic patch though since traffic jams already appearing due to the nature of my city (great inter city traffic).

So still no fucking release! If the cities are so fucking small then why not develop it on our own in a few weeks and release it for the crack bitches? We want the damn game! But no one wants to buy it that's for sure!

The game's fucking broken. I'm content to wait until they've brought it into a playable state, right along an offline patch.

I for one wouldn't complain about about a free version of this, even if't borken beyond belief xD
Oh well. Maybe when someone at EA/Maxis regained some sort of brain and decided to give me the option to play offline in addition to fixing all the other crap that's not working I might consider buying it in 5-6 months.
Until then? Sim City 4, I still love you.

So, who wants to bet that the next patch will change the way the offline timers works?
