I got a refund for my Steam pre-order. After seeing the videos i'm fairly disgusted. AvP 2010 was WAY better, and even that had serious problems.

Really?!
I don't get it Gearbox, why praise a game (Borderlands 2) with it's PC options, and then the next game that comes out from them, they basically take a dump on us...
What kind of drugs are they taking there to make such fucking retarded decisions

Sounds like Gearbox's usual "shifting the blame" process :
when they make a decent game they're all like "see, we made this, aren't we awesome"
when they come up with games like this one they draw the typical excuse "hey hey, the campaign was not made by Gearbox! we only polished"

Well, Borderlands 2 was released by 2K wasn't it? This is SEGA. SEGA is a douche bag company.

But do publishers really have THAT much influence on the devs that they are forced to limit PC graphic options? Seems kinda odd...

Not influence. They may force the publisher to release the game faster so they don't have time to dwell into PC specific too much. Or simply not provide enough money to sustain further polishing of PC. I do believe publishers can affect this.

Hey guys, for those of us waiting for this here is some depressing reading material.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/390431/aliens-colonial-marines-early-review-scores-appear-online/
Early reviews are really bad. I feel bad for anyone that preordered this one. Watching all the previews with Randy Gayford talking about how passionate they are about the brand. This is a good old fashioned gang bang, complaments of Gearbox software. They wined and dined us so hard before we got a good old fashioned penis to the mouth. We all sort of knew this was the case but didnt want to believe it. =(
EDIT so hard.
first mission is pretty fun though i wonder why the reviews were so bad.

Well checking the old images on Ag.ru the game looks just like it did when it was first announced, those absolutely first screens lack a bit of polish (Pulse rifle and marine soldier textures for example.) but otherwise the visuals are mostly identical.
http://www.ag.ru/games/aliens-colonial-marines/screenshots/396687
Gameplay wise it's a standard shooter, I've not watched any media other than the various screenshots so I had no real expectations, AI and animations are a bit sub-par though.
EDIT: There is some posing of course to heighten the effect, not much aliasing either.
http://www.ag.ru/games/aliens-colonial-marines/screenshots/396686
EDIT: Actually the mesh texture on the ground seems a bit higher resolution in this image.
http://www.ag.ru/games/aliens-colonial-marines/screenshots/422931
(It's one of the first really poor textures you notice in the game.)

Does SweetFX work with this release ? (maybe to enhance the dated graphics a bit...) - havent dl it yet....
(In my opinion SweetFX can help lots of older games to make them look better even by todays standard)

Bloody "mash E to escape" events. First DS3, now this. I mean, it's impossible to fail one, it just becomes a chore.

They seem fairly optional but they do happen if the alien or facehugger and what else there is get too close.
The image I posted above was because I welded the guy before killing the alien, if you use the flashlight and spot the alien first you can kill it quite easily and avoid the event, same with facehugger encounters.
When it does happen then as you say it's mostly pointless due to how easy it is, just gets annoying.

AvP 2010 wasn't too bad but each campaign is fairly short, then again the campaign in this game is also only around 4 - 6 hours long.

Yeah, it took me like 10 hours for the three campaigns, but that's just me who take my sweet time with most of the games I play.
And yeah AVP 2010 isn't anything remarkable, it's just when you compare to this that you notice the great difference.
