You can create the autoexec.cfg in there and add those two lines I posted.

Some people say that increasing r_drawnearfov to values over 90 may help with that.
try several different values, for instance:
r_drawnearfov = 100
in your autoexec.cfg and see if that helps.

good time to boost the topic : maldo is almost done with his retexture mod, not only does it undo the dx11 shit nvidia pulled on ati users, besides making shit look awesome it increases performance due to fixing tesselation and lighting
http://maldotex.blogspot.de/ i held of playing the game for this release!

Not sure why you'd blame nvidia instead of amd for amd's subpar performance. Unless proven otherwise, in dx11 both cards are running the same code and content, which is vendor agnostic. If one brand performs better, then that's purely because its hardware is better.
(I am not debating whether the game's tesselation implementation is the best. It's not. But it was done in a hurry, after the game was out, for a post-release patch, at a time that CryEngine 3 itself (the engine/sdk in general) didn't even support dx11 yet. It was a very specific implementation for this title only, and it was done amateurly. For a proper implementation wait for Crysis 3.)

Done in a hurry? They took their time to implement tessellation on flat surfaces, so that we get completely flat roadblocks consisting of millions of polygons |
Well, they didn't give much thought to it, did they? They could have added detail to more important surfaces (and did) instead of grabbing a random model (roadblock) and tessellated it with no significant visual benefit.
But it's not like it affects performance as much as you might think. This is from Maldo, the man himself, who PickupArtist praises for exposing "bad" nvidia -> http://maldotex.blogspot.gr/2011/09/tesselation-myth-in-crysis-2-el-mito-de.html
Maldo wrote: | Many have urged me to solve performance problems caused by tesselation. Those problems had been "discovered" in a few sites of technical analysis.
I was not at all agree with the analysis that those sites had been made, much less the hype that these tests had caused in the Crysis 2 community. |
Tests done on his GTX 480:
Ultra mode:
Tess Off: 44fps http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BzRGc2ZlM_A/Tm21WhUTiDI/AAAAAAAABdQ/wU-9-mTcBuU/s1600/Crysis2-test-02.jpg
Tess On: 40fps http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tCiq7mTPMqI/Tm21W8ULXlI/AAAAAAAABdU/1DA_qdNsE-s/s1600/Crysis2-test-01.jpg
Very High mode:
Tess Off: 75fps http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t2CIAxHvS0s/Tm21aFcxs2I/AAAAAAAABdc/gMa3bZ8vQY4/s1600/Crysis2-test-04.jpg
Tess On: 73fps http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a4OzEQi06Hc/Tm21b9qgd4I/AAAAAAAABdg/FVIkbJdMS3w/s1600/Crysis2-test-05.jpg
What we see here is that the tessellation of the infamous roadblocks (when 4 of those are simultaneously on screen!) brings down performance by 2-4fps, only! It's almost insignificant when the other effects the Ultra setting enables, bring down performance by 30+ fps. Big fucking deal I'm pretty sure the SSDO AO setting alone has a bigger performance hit than those roadblocks
But that's on an nvidia card..

@russ80: True, at least in Crysis 2 with DX11/tess it's easy to spot it looks better than the vanilla DX9 version. In most other games at first glance they look the same.
As for the ocean issue, even the Crysis 1 maps AFAIK are made this way (a layer of ocean under the land). It's how the engine works/Crytek make their maps.

It looks okay, but not that amazing. But it's only early footage. It's promising!

Sorry for bumping this thread, but in my machine Crysis 2 runs like shit. Ultra settings just murder the framerate on a few levels, like Dark Heart. Any kind of heavy firefight usually makes the framerate go down to the teens. And I'm pretty sure a GTX 580 should be able to handle this.
Here's the complete machine:
Core i7-930 @ 2.8 GHZ (stock)
8 GB DDR3 RAM
GTX 580

It's quite normal, you'd need two of those 580 to actually run the game on ultra/dx11/+texture pack (1080p) at 60fps

A single GTX 580 wouldn't be enough? So the videos on Youtube are lying and are actually running with something turned down to Extreme? I mean, I just tested Dark Heart again, and if I turn down the Object Detail down to Extreme, I gain about 20 FPS. Is this normal?

Yeah it's not unlikely that there are some unoptimized settings that rape the framerate for no reason.
When I tried the game on my current rig (i2500k@4.3/8GB DDR3/570 GTX) it was basically unplayable at max details. Had to lower some stuff to actually make it smooth enough to play.

Well, my bad. I thought a GTX 580 would be enough
EDIT: lowering resolution a notch helps tremendously.

Use Maldo's mod to disable particle shadows. It could help.

My 7950 3gb and 3570k will play it at a fairly constant 60fps on dx11/ultra/maldo texture pack.. thought it was a comparable card to the 580. Maybe you are CPU limited.

I've had this game at a 2 hour save since near release, just now set to finish it & wanting to know if patching is worthwhile as I'm seeing a lot of people with issues once they did patch. I would like to at least patch "Crysis_2_v1.9_Cracked_PROPER-FLTDOX" (without the DX11 & texture pack) but this thread is a mess with complaints. Mouse movement does feel sluggish however & I wonder if updating would resolve it.
I believe the version I have is "Crysis_2_v1.1-FLTDOX" & my hardware is fairly old (ATi 4850HD, Core 2 Quad Q9300).
Also, should I bother with the texture pack at all? I think the game looks fine as is & doubt my system can handle much more; mainly my issue is that the game feels a little less fluid than I think it should & would rather patch out any bugs that might be waiting for me in the hours ahead.
