GoG doesn't even have the updated installer up yet despite Remedys best intentions. They are thinking of patching it up old-school.

Finished it and had a great time with it! Pretty lame to release it as a standalone game rather then DLC for Alan Wake though. The graphics look exactly the same, it's short and the story is incomprehensible for someone who didn't play Alan Wake. Then agan, they are not charging full price for it either.
It was surprisingly easy though, I played on normal just like I did in Alan Wake and I found that pretty challenging. But not here, it never gets difficult on normal, so if you play it on the pc I advise to play it on nightmare.

Well, I finished it. It's not nearly as good as AW or the DLCs, but it's still a good and enjoyable game.
I won't review the game now, but let me say this:
AW worked great as a directed experience, and I am happy they decided to not make it open world. We got a taste of more openness now, and it didn't work out, because it lost that feeling of tenseness and mystery. Now, either the direction in AN is simply worse, or openness is not something this type of game can be designed well around, when the priority is the atmosphere.]
You see, openness gives you free roaming, but much more time is spent exploring than living the story of Alan Wake. When I want to explore, I'll fire up the gothic games, when I want a directed and good experience which is full of mystery and tense, then I turn to Alan Wake.
I now am certain, that it was indeed a very good decision to make it a directed experience.

I used to think that the linear structure was somehow a wasted opportunity, but after having played both Alan Wake and American Nightmare, I agree with you (and the devs)
For such an extremely atmospheric game, a directed and cinematic -in a good way- experience is indeed the best choice. The pace is always perfect and the bland moments are strategically positioned, which grants a perfect rollercoaster of emotions that could be weaker in an open world environment

So does GOG happen to have the latest updates available now? How do they work? Do they just offer separate patches for the games you have or do they actually update their (your) library?

I am asking for updates... I thought that GOG releases updates as separeta files like patch 1.02 for Alan Wake:AN but after it no patches are released anywhere...I wonder if they update whole install with updates and not releaseing updates alone....
