GoG doesn't even have the updated installer up yet despite Remedys best intentions. They are thinking of patching it up old-school.

They're gonna send 3,5 inch floppy disks by mail? That's how I got my first patch for an ancient game. Old ( but not oldest Wink ) school.

I was getting more at a stand alone patch download, which is the oldest my old school PC gaming gets, unless we talk about the Amiga whose games never even got patches Very Happy.

oh Amiga games got patched a lot,you had to fill out those register-your-game-postcards and send them back to the gamestudio/publisher to get those updates tho.

Some of these were hilarious. A friend of mine bought Bullfrog's Hi-Octane back then and on the card they wanted to know your job, monthly income, who was living in your household, and other stuff. Definitely foreshadowing Google and Facebook there Very Happy.

Finished it and had a great time with it! Pretty lame to release it as a standalone game rather then DLC for Alan Wake though. The graphics look exactly the same, it's short and the story is incomprehensible for someone who didn't play Alan Wake. Then agan, they are not charging full price for it either.

It was surprisingly easy though, I played on normal just like I did in Alan Wake and I found that pretty challenging. But not here, it never gets difficult on normal, so if you play it on the pc I advise to play it on nightmare.

Well, I finished it. It's not nearly as good as AW or the DLCs, but it's still a good and enjoyable game.

I won't review the game now, but let me say this:

AW worked great as a directed experience, and I am happy they decided to not make it open world. We got a taste of more openness now, and it didn't work out, because it lost that feeling of tenseness and mystery. Now, either the direction in AN is simply worse, or openness is not something this type of game can be designed well around, when the priority is the atmosphere.]

You see, openness gives you free roaming, but much more time is spent exploring than living the story of Alan Wake. When I want to explore, I'll fire up the gothic games, when I want a directed and good experience which is full of mystery and tense, then I turn to Alan Wake.

I now am certain, that it was indeed a very good decision to make it a directed experience.

I used to think that the linear structure was somehow a wasted opportunity, but after having played both Alan Wake and American Nightmare, I agree with you (and the devs) Smile

For such an extremely atmospheric game, a directed and cinematic -in a good way- experience is indeed the best choice. The pace is always perfect and the bland moments are strategically positioned, which grants a perfect rollercoaster of emotions that could be weaker in an open world environment

You consoletards just don't grasp the possibility of sandbox gaming. Everything gets better if you turn it into a GTA clone. Every game NEEDS to be "open world" and Remedy sold out because they didn't deliver a true master race experience. This Weak Anal shit is pathetic Cool Face

It still cracks me up to see how the PC section's opinion on Alan Wake turned 180° after the game was released Laughing

Yeah, well, there were a few people, who have had a good opinion of the game from the get go. I knew from one of my xbawks player friends, that the game was top notch, I just didn't want a console to try out the few games I was interested in Smile

I am very happy that Remedy made Alan Wake and American Nightmare as they are.. ya know... as secret Max Payne 3 Cool Face

No, really. Those are fantastic, atmospheric games. Hoping for Alan Wake2 and actually anything from Remedy.

Since Starbreeze is now out of the picture, there isn't much as talented and ambitious studios left... Every major player is owned by corporations which only cares about moneyz lol wut

Alan Duty2: Wake Nightmare lol wut

So does GOG happen to have the latest updates available now? How do they work? Do they just offer separate patches for the games you have or do they actually update their (your) library?

I am asking for updates... I thought that GOG releases updates as separeta files like patch 1.02 for Alan Wake:AN but after it no patches are released anywhere...I wonder if they update whole install with updates and not releaseing updates alone....
