In addition to the high-res DLC fix mod there's also this which fixes some additional issues.
Was about to post it last night (since I'm using it ) but I wasn't sure if bethesda had fixed that problem or not.
Guess not
Oh and since I've only installed the HD textures after "finishing" the game (spent almost 2 years ingame ) I've only begun to see how they improve the game on certain spots yesterday.
And it makes a huge difference...

They haven't done anything to the high resolution textures since they were released.
I like what they do but most people probably want entirely new texture mods instead as the difference is more noticeable, still even though the DLC doesn't cover many clutter, misc and similar objects it does cover nearly all outfits, armor, weapons, creatures and architecture though for some reason nearly no landscape textures were updated.
There's a noticeable improvement to the clothing and other such equipment even if there's a few gaps here and there (Not all equipment items got updated.) and the architecture is also quite nice although some were rather low-res before and still not that good afterwards but I replaced nearly all my texture replacers with this pack though some files remained as it covered stuff that Bethesda skipped over.
(Vegetation and such would have been real nice if it had been updated and of course these bugs shouldn't have happened at all since they were already mentioned and known in the original textures, most even had fixes of their own and then there's some new issues to some of these HD textures to boot which is unfortunate and I doubt Bethesda will get around to updating the file at all but we'll see.)
Getting some weird freeze problem around Helgen if I try to start a new games since this update but current saves work just fine so it's probably some odd conflict or even game bug but it doesn't affect my current game at all so it's relatively minor.
Looking forward to see more of Dawnguard as well even if it (and the second DLC) have a one month X360 exclusivity first, should be fun.
(Looking forward to Bethesda updating the Creation Kit and fixing some of the known bugs, they kinda have to do that now since 1.6 don't play nice with the current editor since it lacks functionality and a number of other things they changed with the game.)

Any good texture mods for those textures that the HD Pack didn't cover?
That hopefully won't choke my 6850...

It doesn't look too bad in the images but when I downloaded a earlier version and checked the actual textures I deleted the file as it was poorly up-scaled and filtered versions of the original textures and that's only a illusion at best, not real detail.
(I guess the noise and sharpness makes it look better than it is, I don't know how it works.)
This new version could have improved from that though.
My current problem with playing Skyrim is that I'm so in love with the gazillion mods that I use and must have that I'm starting to dip down into 15-20 fps at spots with my GTX480.
I really could use to get myself a 670 this summer.

Are you sure that the problem doesn't lie within your CPU?
Game is pretty CPU bound... but if you're using 4k or 8k textures then I guess a 670 might help a little.

Well, the cpu is a i5-760 that I run at 4.17ghz and from what I can tell it's coping quite well.
Without using too many 4k (usually scale those down to 2k) I'm still getting points where it just completely stops and my suspicsion is the lack of memory for the amount of textures that I try to cram in. On top of that the GPU is with the stock fan from Nvidia, reaching temperatures of almost 100C in a ventilated chassi (NZXT H2 - Open front with added fans).
I would like to not upgrade the CPU until Haswell comes around but might be a plan to consider.

You can try to explain as much as you like how that skyrim HD is actually a piece of shit and not actual texturework that deserves any praise whatosever but the derps who support it (for some unknown reason except maybe believing that having a higher res automatically equals good quality) will keep on doing it no matter what.
I suppose it's a difference in opinion but to me it's a pretty clear difference if you have to rely on filters to enhance quality.
(There's no point in up-scaling existing textures and then even going as far as saving as uncompressed either, it just really drags out file size for no noticeable benefit.)
Not sure how to explain it and I guess it doesn't really matter, it can be seen by endorsements and downloads what mods are more preferred I guess, I don't usually agree with that but that's what people like.
There are some titles that can benefit from sharpening and other filters but it's best used via say the FXAA injector and only in small quantities.
(It just ends up destroying detail otherwise by all that noise and aliasing/shimmering it introduces.)
EDIT: Actually there some advantages to treating the original textures if it's handled carefully and that's to avoid compression artifacts or pixelation such as was done for the face textures in the game, just as a example.
(This mod for example - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=438 )
EDIT: Another comparison, first one is a female head texture mod (character textures are also not covered by the high-res DLC though some of the base normal maps are improved to avoid above pixel issues.) and the second one is the same but instead of filtering it's been redrawn.
To me even if that first work looks good in-game the second is far superior in detail.
(Second mod has it's own faults of course and overall it's best to combine with other works for optimal results, just takes a lot of time.)

Well forget what I've said then, that CPU is more than enough.

Mixing too many texture mods is never good, when I put the Skyrim Realistic Overhaul (complete) on top of the official HD textures + other various graphical mods my 570 almost exploded
Haven't tried the new version of the Skyrim HD yet, but I remember it being "less heavy" on the GPU.
I'm mostly at 3.8 GB RAM usage currently for this game, as a LAA patched but still 32-bit exe that's pretty close to the 4 GB limit though it's better than the previous 2 - 2.5 limit.

Wow that's impressive! I'm still at 1.8-2GB, since I decided to focus on the minor specific mods without touching any of the huge texture packs (except for the official one). It's the only way for my system to keep the framerate stable at 60fps without additional stuttering/hiccups
Looks nice. Like the fact that they added crossbows. Too bad the game is crap at the moment and I don't think there are any mods that properly fix the game.
