There is no such thing as "the end of the scene". StarForce will have its 15 minutes of fame in Wired and be touted as "the copy protection to end all copy protections" and then it will be completely reverse engineered and/or there will be some snafu about it interfering with legitimate use, or something else, and it will exit stage left. Because the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long. |
I doubt SF3 will be completely reverse engineered. My opinion and hope is that more and more publishers will not stick with SF3 after trying it and getting many complaints about it from customers. If the rumors are true and Ubisoft are really going to stop using SF3, Im quite sure many pubs will follow them - the big name is always immitated and followed - "if Ubisoft doesnt like SF3, and including all my problems with customers about SF3, why should I like it?". Ubisoft leaving the "circle of starforced" would be very good sign for the scene

There were also rumors about Codemasters stopping using SF3, but they're still using it... SF3 someday will be completle RE... just like LaserLock, Tages, and other protections... Just give crackers some time...

I suppose you've installed the game before with it's own installer! And the game might install whatever it requires for proper execution. Why don't you complain about some textures, sounds, dlls capable of playing such sounds are begin installed?

All I mentioned was the scene, I've little doubt that somewhere a non-scene team has compromised SF3. The Ultima games showed a very high level of knowledge about the protection, and regarding them being bug exploits two different versions of SF3 were broken, second game in response to SF alledgedly claiming that they had fixed the bug in earlier version.

If crackers cannot rethink their methods for over a year then I do not even want to imagine how much time and effort it will take to manage it.

The fallen ones are usually site-ops. Crackers stay in the shadow.
They busted some people and what? The scene is alive and games are being cracked.

And what? You were in the middle of the action or are a neighbour of these "very known" crackers?
These "federal actions" are very boring. They do not change anything. Scene was, is and will exist.

They change everything... Not only for the cracker's and other ppl's lives but they also have an impact on the scene... Before the last year's busts the scene had four major groups: IMS,RZR,DEV and FLT, after the busts there were only two HLM and RLD. VNG, MON and other groups realease only shitty games... so I don't think they really matter... After the latest busts, no group maybe left...
