You have a right to not like it. Maybe the theme changes were too big for You?
How would You rate new jersey chapters only ?

i don't know, hardly any better
in the previous max payne games you always felt so isolated, roaming around new york city, one of the biggest, most alive cities in the world, but you always felt alone, everything was always "off", empty and on top of it abstract
and you were always fighting for yourself, for your own cause, not to rescue some people, either on the run from the big crime syndicates/conspiracies or on the hunt and almost no one was ever on your side
i played on normal and died round about hundreds of times, only used bullettime to shoot from cover
cover shooting, like in any other generic shooter today, by the end of the game i was hardly bulletdodging anymore, not even running around with bullettime on, just hiding
and whenever i was low on health and had no painkillers i just ran out of cover and let them kill me, i knew i was going to die anyways, there was no way out of that
given the modern gameplay style it seemed like regenerating health was missing, not that i wanted it, i wanted max payne.
and where were the comic stripes ?
maybe i should play it again on the PC, but in the best case, without dying all the time, it would still not be great, neither the story nor the atmosphere

I think you were playing the game wrong, leading to a shitty experience. You pretty much ruined it for yourself.

I remember the days when I was usually half healed during the entire game..older RE and SH titles ( slow movement ) , some older shooters too..so you just gave up when you were on your low health . So.. preety much what Mister_s said , and I finished it on hard with free aim.
Todays kids are so spoiled , poor games..

This.
Why not try at least? It would be more satisfying if you got out of the situation with low health.
And you ask for regenerating health and after that you ask for some old school max payne |
this x100..

not like i expected anything else from nfohump
i mean how many of you actually played the game ? i finished it at least.
and i didn't ask for regenerating health at all, read again please, i said the game feels like it was designed for regenerative health
but please, go on and play one of the later levels, stay out of cover use bulletdodge or bullet"running" and see how long you will live, if i recall you were invincible in the previous max paynes during bullettime (expect against grenades), not here tho
and it is not like i never tried to go against my enemies with low health, experience just showed that it was futile, autosaves are unforgiving and there isnt that much painkillers just laying around, in most cases you would die sooner or later
the whole "shooting out of cover with bullettime" is just an intuitive development, it's not like i didnt begin the game just playing it like i always played max payne, if hiding behind cover just to plan my next cool run trough the room jumping and shooting, that didnt work for long
remember max payne when you could just run along the subway station and find a random amount of enemies, sometimes just one guy guarding some door ?
this game is like any other cover-based shooter, you enter a room, kill a dozen of people, next room, next wave.
and back in the day i would have given max payne 1 a 9.5
and max payne 2 probably somewhere around 9, backtracking is a little bit boring.
it might be called max payne, but it still isnt, i'd play the old ones any day over this

I am playing AGAIN Max Payne 1 atm on iOS and obviously you don't have any memory from it : it was exactly the same, you enter one room, kill all the guys, "last guy cam", next spot, etc. The subway place always had multiple guys waiting for you.

How do you swap discs for this game? My peasant 20GB internal HDD doesn't have enough space to hold both the GOD rips. So I loaded one disc on my internal HDD and one on a USB thumb drive. Tried loading both the discs individually from FSD and both ask me to insert discs.

@akvma
It's your opinion dude, I respect that.
We are all trying to say that it's basiclly the same gameplay expericene, try playing it without autoaim and fly all around the room like in the old max payne games, regardless of your health level.
Remeber in max payne 1 or 2 when at the last checkpoint you had 10-20% of your health left and only one or no painkillers? You had to try to get past he next wave of enemies only with that..
I'm on chapter 8 or 9 btw.

Actually I found that its not a bad idea NOT to use left trigger for aiming. just shoot and run

Wow, massive rage on gametrailers review :
Design 7,7?! Gameplay 7,5?! cod had better scores.
which was obviously done by someone who's an lousy gamer who can't beat the game on normal).
6.8 Story... 6.8 WHAT. THE. F*CK. Perhaps it's a matter of taste.
But it's absolutely insanely good for me, even my most LOATHED(!!!) feature (Max going baldie on us) is handled well and does infact make sense.
One of the most entertaining, intense, HARD!(in a good old school way) shooter I've played in a very long time. Don't believe ONE SINGLE review check other sites. GET THIS GAME. IT IS GOOD.
[Sorry for sounding like a fanboy, but I don't want people turning away from a excellent game
rename it call of max payne and maybe gametrailers would have gave it a 9 or above,
id they really just complain that the Ai was actually good? wow

I keep on playing, even though it feels more like a chore
Need to replay the old ones, but memories of those are more vivid and memorable than this. Might of course be wrong. Many moons have passed since I played any of those.
Definetly share some of the viewpoints that akvma has. Like sometimes its just easier to kill yourself to get that pill bottle that you know you will need in next shoot out.
Had to choose free aim to literally find the aim dot easier. Subs sucks as well. Too small and portugese?
And how can you play this game wrong? Isnt that bad game design then? Why is the game tricking me to believe that I can play the game in a certain way, when acording to many of you I cant? I agree that the game wants to be played more agressive, but many times it just doesn't feel like a smart move, especially not knowing level layout and where enemies will turn up next.
Anyway, close to the end and had some good times, but nowhere close to 9 from me. Liked remedys original versions of Payne better.

If you hide behind cover disregarding bullttime, let yourself die just because you can't handle it and call it bad because you die a lot, you're probably playing it wrong yes.

I've just finished it. FUCKING AMAZING !!! Loved everything in it. Maybe the last 2 vhapters were a bit too hard but its Max Payne. It was the same in first and second game. Now I can finish whole trilogy in order knowing how good it all is.
It might be me but I just like linear shooters like that, binary domain or gears of war.
Note that I was not using cover too much. I was mostly trying to run and gun plus shoot dodge and it worked besides last chapter. It was beginning to chore a bit but ending was very satysfing among all that cliff hanger crap recently.
9/10 from me.
Also note that if it wasn't Max Payne but a game about some other dude It would scored lower. Max is a star here.

Nah, if i use bt when in cover, i use it when i pop up from it.
And no I dont call it bad because I die alot. The game obviously isnt bad, but the options to gameplay mechanics seems abit scizophrenic.
Just played abit again and one thing that made me smile was when enemy was hiding behind a corner in a stairway. Reminded me of some trial and error moments from the originals. But when playing that part now, it was kind of expected. Like an alien movie, but you know where the scare will be...

GT votes were absurdly low, but I agree with some of the points they make (annoying graphic effects in cutscenes, some flawed mechanics, badly implemented aiming etc.). I'd give the game a 8.5, a very solid and fun game, but not everything works quite as it shoulds.
