Well guys, we were talking about the machine on which we played carrier command first. No need to pull out the grand dad card

Surely was not great for spreadsheets and stuff like that. That PC was the king.
In publishing software the Macs had advantage.
But 3D modeling, Bitmap paint programs and sound, Amiga was number one.

You were right. I got the mail today.
Another pre-order... well at least this are kind of devs that deserve.

Huge fan of Hostile Waters. Think I played the original Carrier Command a very long time ago but no distinct memories of it. Ordered the supporter version.

Hopefully we see a release of it. Not willing to spend money without trying it out first.

I don't have much to report on, definitively do read the game manual however as this beta or maybe it's a sort of demo beta anyway read the manual as you'll get plopped down in a 1 vs 1 skirmish battle without much know how at all besides the controls (If you looked those up.) I tried for a while but didn't really succeed in much of anything, sure there are bugs but if you don't know how to play properly that's definitively going to hinder things.
I'm reminded of Battlezone albeit with a slight change of focus, you have a carrier and a number of islands and you produce units and equipment to eventually advance over to the enemy island group and ultimately capture each of these by taking or destroying the command center and finally destroying his carrier.
This game advances pretty slowly, "fast traveling" by planning routes eases things up but the islands are huge though only three or so climates (Out of six supposedly.) currently exist and as in ArmA the HDR adaption is pretty extreme so the game can be very dark too.
It's very detailed otherwise, currently you basically have a land unit and a air unit plus your carrier, these two can be equipped and designed as you want in a pretty in depth menu system, also switches between numerous windows as you zoom in on the map or switch camera, multi monitor users might see a nice benefit here.
It's very intuitive and easy to get started but there's a lot of complexity as you can't just drive over and start shooting at the carrier ship without a proper force behind it, units also have limited ammunition and energy and will need to return to the carrier to resupply.
I'm just being silly and exploring the island and getting a grip of things so I can't really comment on battles or capturing the islands, it's not a fast game due to the size of the area and the carriers actual speed even though I imagine actual battles will be rather fast paced.
(You can either command units or take direct control and drive around as you want, this is usually done with the carrier but any unit you own can be entered like this and thus there's a pretty wide perspective and lots of things to keep track of.)
Various customization options and a lot of other settings plus key bindings to adjust too, not everything is available in the beta (Again think of it like a demo rather.) but it shows great potential.
(The game is also quite demanding, unsure what engine they are actually using but it's probably the one from ArmA to ArmA 2 but heavily modified, lots of attention to detail and a number of effects though still DX9 only but again what do I know how things will change or what else will happen as there's still some time before they're near a release.)

I've been looking forward to trying this.. but FADE...? Urgh. I think I'll wait for the PROPER/CRACKFIX/PROPER/CRACKFIXREADNFO war to be over, since every other FADE game since ever has been hilariously broken on release due to the protection.

this game reminds me a game ...maybe 10 years old..i am not sure but the player was a pilot of a fighter and there were islands around with bandits and i remember specific island with firendly harbor guy with some junk in he's yard and you helped him to defend the harbor with your ship...i know it is kinda misty description, but someone may know the name,or...i will just not be lazy and open my old 4 cd's cases and see myself lol...i may still have it on cd's.
