|
 |
So I'm thinking of getting a Corsair SSD Force Series GT 120GB (http://www.guru3d.com/article/corsair-force-gt-120gb-ssd-review/1).
I was wondering if anyone has tested it and what they think of it, is it oood/bad, any SSD that you would recommend instead of this one?
Also, since I'm a lazy fucker I do not want to re-install windows on it (mostly because of all the settings I've got set up on the fucker). So is there any easy yet good way of cloning the windows partition I already have on my mechanical partition?
I'd appreciate any advice and thanks in advance.
Post Scriptum
Or should I get the Intel® SSD 520 Series 120GB instead?
It's just a bit more expensive but some say it's better in the long run.

Darn it, as I figured that a complete re-install would be crucial. T_T
I see that they have both and M4 and the Intel 520 @ the store. Anyone of these that's "better" than the other?

corsair performance pro (im using it for like 1 month i can recommend this, really good perf. and reliability)
samsung 830 (dont know much about it but i heard its good)
intel 510 (dont know much about it but i heard its good)

Regarding SSDs, how do you guys reckon that an accelerator SSD drive will work?
For the people that aren't in the know, it's an SSD drive that caches stuff that is ran on an mechanical drive (afaik).

Yup, just ordered the Crucial M4 128GB.
It was a bit cheaper and in stock.
Now I'll just have to re-install everything when I get it, also I'll get a new chassi so I'll be moving everything from one box to another (that's going to be a bitch). T_T

I just can't cope with SSDs... I don't like the fact that reading/writing actions have a limit.

What limit m3th0d? The fact that in 5-7 years you might be close to running out of them? As in, roughly the same period the average mechanical drive fails (and will definitely have degraded performance wise)?
It's a load of horseshit that SSDs fail "regularly" or that their lifespan is short. I've been running my two vertexes for respectively 14 and 15 months or so now, neither has degraded one bit in performance and neither has shown any sign of failure. No BSODs, nothing in that time.

Yes, I know, I know...
Anyways, prices are still too steep for me to even waste the slightest thought about getting one. May it be an SSD or HDD (and I urgently need a new one actually)

Well I'm considering replacing one of my Vertexes with an Intel 520 soon, you can buy that if you want; an older V2 60GB, but a perfect drive to try it out on. I'll warn you now though, once you get an SSD...

Well, what kind of SSD, read/write/copy/latency etc.???
Every generation of SSD basically doubled performance from last gen, esp. when comparing last-gen to current-gen where it jumped from ~250-275 to 550+MB/s.

Is it cheaper than V3 128GB in your country? |
as mentioned above, i didnt want to buy the Vertex 3 cause of problems they have ( could be a low percentage but i dont wanna risk it with data ) crucial m4 had near perfect stability reviews and thats why i bought it, maybe its 10mb/s slower than a V3 but when you go from 100mb/s HD to 470mb/s crucial M4 thats the least of my worries.
But you talk about price of course, i would spend the few extra euros on the M4.

Only storing crucial data in one place is dumb anyway. Know how Samsung Spinpoints are often lauded for their reliability? Fuck that, had 5 fail on me in 2010-2011, 3 of which were <= 3 months old at time of failure (3 F1's, 2 F3's). You don't want to risk it with data; that implies you only keep that data on that drive and that it's important data. That alone makes it nonsense. Either the data is important and you make sure to keep it in more than one place (if you don't, then congratulations, you are an idiot - so many people I know have lost their goddamn thesis' and what not because it was only stored on their laptop) or the data isn't important and you just find it annoying to reinstall shit *should* it fail
Failures happen with any brand and controller; failure rates reported online are based on data from retailers and not from manufacturer's themselves, so they are far from accurate.

How much of a limit would an old P5B (6Gb/s) be? Is it even worth the effort in this case?
OCZ Solid State Drive Agility 3 for 68 euros. Worth the money? The crucial M4 is only ten euros more I see. I assume that's netter since it's the latest gen?

Only a fool would say stay away from Sandforce when Intel is now using them for their top of the line drives.

Damn, judging by reviews it would be stupid to buy a small drive. The difference in performance between 60-64GB versions and 240GB versions is between 200-300%. I guess I'll wait untill prices drop.

What you HW pro's think about HyperX? Is it good? I might get it a tad cheaper. Is it worth it?
Or should I go for new Intel?
