Thanks to lolozaur, I played a bit too. I reached Tacarigua and for the most part the game is really great. Sorry, but I just love it. It still feels like a PB game and the new experience/skills system is quite interesting. From what I can see concerning those, the game is not streamlined so much. It feels a bit more modern, but nothing really to worry about. Also, the combat at the beginning is a bit stupid since all you can do is block and hit with the sword. On hard it really doesn't feel easy, it's just that it's very simplistic since you don't have any skills. I'm sure that will change later into the game. There are some things that I hope are only present in this build. I'm pretty sure this is the alpha build they've been showing for so long everywhere. There's definately something wrong with the camera. The Y axis speed is slower and I haven't found any way to make them equal so far. The game looks absolutely stunning and I had very vew graphical glitches. The pop-ups that were mentioned everywhere are really not that bad, they're nothing the previous games didn't have. There's definately something wrong concerning the vegatation and shadows. That's the only major graphical problem that I've seen and that only happened on Tacarigua, since on Caldera there wasn't much vegetation. I don't know if I'll finish this "beta" because I've seen how the game feels and all that. I would prefer to play the whole game now, because it's great, really.
Long story short, this seems to be pretty much what CDP did with TW2, but not so major. They did make it more modern, but it's still a great game.

Ah, it's THAT of fast travel? Oh. Well yeah, I vastly prefer the TP stone method used in Gothic. That, at least, added to the atmosphere. Or hell, even the carriage riding in Skyrim.

All PB games had fast travel...it's not the evil people make it out to be.
And DarkRohirrim I'm glad you like it, that probably means I will as well. They did say the beginning was a lot more streamlined and the game complexity goes up as you progress.

Yeah, the fast travel system is like in the TES games now, but only between the really major points, not like in the TES games. The PR guy from Deep Silver said on the WoR forums that they made it like this because it makes more sense or some shit like that. Right... Believe what you want, but they definately made it like this for the derps so they can just travel between locations with a simple click, instead of finding the teleport stone for each location and using those.

How does FT make one a derp? I had zero joy in traveling back and forth in ye oldern games. It's a waste of time.

PB always had fast travel in their games, but by teleport stones. How is the new system where you have to do nothing better than the old one? Why couldn't they leave it alone?! Why change something that works perfectly?! It makes more sense my ass... it's a game that still has fantasy in it so teleport stones makes way more sense than magically pressing on your map and teleporting where you want. But whatever, that probably was too hard since you couldn't do it from the start.

Yeah finding some magical stone in some city was very realistic. In Gothic 2 (I'm using that as a reference since I don't remember G3 very well) the teleport stones were right in your face anyway. It felty as artificial as FT to me ("wee I found a teleport stone I can magically teleport here now!"). Going to a city and "unlocking" it for future FT is as 'realistic' as finding some teleport stone to me.

Afaik it's the same engine as Risen, only revamped
Quote: | I’ve noticed some incredible differences in the quality of the shadows and the overall depth of field. Everything looks clearer and sharper than before, with more attention to detail – is this an entirely new engine for Risen 2?
It’s actually the same engine. Piranha Bytes has actually used the same engine for ten years when they started off with the Gothic series, but those are twenty guys sitting in a room doing RPGs for ten years so they know their stuff. What they did for Risen 1, for example, was… well because Gothic III was prone to being buggy and the streaming didn’t work, so for Risen 1 they improved all the streaming so that’s why Risen 1 has very good streaming capabilities. The speech tree wasn’t very well implemented in Risen 1 and also the depth of field to camera wasn’t well implemented so in Risen 2 now we’re going to have cut scenes in the dialogue where you’ll have different cameras with different focal lengths… so you can always heavily improve on the engine. |

It's their Genome engine that they've been using since Gothic III. They never used the engines of other developers.
Edit: Didn't see that the above post was about this. Yeah, so it's been basically the same engine since the first Gothic, but it got an enormous upgrade when they made Gothic III. That explains why that game was so messed up also, since they never managed to properly finish the engine I guess.

Not really bad, as Risen 1 was a good engine visually and ran quite well.

Well what you want, they don't have the budget for high quality models and animations, so they have to cut so they can read their lines.
