Looks gorgeous, doesn't it sausage? Very Happy I'm still not seeing much of these "enhanced" textures Remedy promised -- there's a great deal of textures in the game that are very low res, stuff I'd swear was pretty much identical to the 360 version. Lighting is fantastic though Very Happy

That's because the cutscenes are 720p BIK reencodes of the 360 visuals. Lovely.

Remedy's community manager just said that the AMD Crossfire profile update was a typo. It's for Alan Wake, not Alan Wake: American Nightmare.

It's a DX9-only game.

Just tried it for ~30 minutes, everything is fine (from the performance to mouse controls, which I find pretty good). The visuals are excellent, except for the low-res cutscene videos which are horrible and partially ruin the atmosphere, at least for me.

Gameplay-wise is very "basic", but in a good way since the game can be challenging and rewarding like the good old Remedy titles.

I can't comment on the story because I'm still at the beginning, but this Alan Wake seems to be a solid game so far...nothing particularly impressive nor innovative, but yeah, it's a good game men Smile

The pirate version doesn't match 1:1 with the final game that activates today from Steam. We've updated the Steam version since. Well, if we get reports of a few particular bugs we know what version has been played.

If it is Steamworks the game data files available now can be a few weeks old so I have no doubts what so ever there will be a day-0 update as the game launches, or well before so when it's downloaded you get the updated files, I intend to validate these current files and check that myself to see what is updated but based on current feedback the game seems pretty OK so any changes are probably very minimal unless they redo the controls or some such, heh. And here's a small FAQ.

EDIT: The game exe is dated Feb. 10th so it's not that old nor can there be that much that have changed.

JB, would it be possible to use the files from Skidrow on a legit Steam copy to speed up the download process? So it just validates files and redownloads whats left/updated?

Yes of course, SteamApps\Alan Wake\ should work and then you just start the install and it processes the existing files and updates as needed. Smile
