What do you mean? What files are you trying to play?

My video files play at ~24 FPS, I would like to know if it is possible to get it as high to the point where the movie playback is as smooth as it can be.
Talking about BDRIPs and such, but shouldn't this be possible for any kind of format? I've seen dvd's on TVs with smooth playback.

Maybe one of the movie gurus can chime in, but as far as I know most movies are only recorded with 24p, which means about 24 frames per second. So when you only get 24fps, mpc-hd does exactly what the source material gives it, it renders each frame perfectly.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p#24p_in_high_definition_disc_formats
I think there are some filters in some TV sets which can calculate the frames in between to make the movie look smoother, maybe there are software filters for that too.

ugh fucking windows. I had to boot into safe mode to get this to work. Computer won't start up now, was I supposed to do something before deleting that?

Yes, I forgot to say press Ctrl + W before you do it. My mistake, sorry.

Movies are recoreded in 24 fps, you can't increase that. You can set your screen to 60Hz, but that won't make the movie play any smoother. There are artifical techniques which TVs use, but such methods are fake and distort the movie in a way. A movie is meant to be played at 24fps. That's smooth playback. That's as simple as I can put it.

I have a LG LED TV, it gives movies the "made with a homecam in a cheap setting" vibe. Such techniques have been around for years afaik, I never liked it. It seems to work without any problems when watching HD, but when SD comes into play I also experience stuttering.
When a TV/monitor supports true 24p playback, techniques like Truemotion look ridiculous and fake when turned on.

@wizarD
I don't know of any TrueMotion/Motion2 options for MPC-HC, I'm afraid. If you do find any, please let me know =) There is a standalone player that uses your GPU to power decoding, but egh.... I prefer MPC-HC
www.mirillis.com
The technique is called "motion interpolation" and the wiki article has more info, including PC players.

Thanks for the link, that piece of software is exactly what I meant, albeit I'd much prefer it in the form of a MPC addon or something, thanks yet again!

Yeah, but *only* ffd and Haali, that's all. MKVs worked OOTB but getting AVI to work was a pain, then I had to change internal renderer because what worked with AVI wouldn't work with MKV and vice versa, but it's working now and definitely look very nice. I like it!

I agree with the detractors, I've tried 24fps --> 60 software converters and they just make stuff look "weird"

You're welcome! Though really you should thank wizarD, as I wouldn't have even thought of looking for this stuff until he mentioned it. As for performance; with smoothing set to advanced and GPU acceleration enabled, it still only takes around 33% CPU on mine - definitely something I can live with. I like how it can be enabled and disabled on the fly, so I can simply disable SVP when it looks poor.

Doesn't seem to work with MPC-HC... fraps doesn't load and the videos run at their native speed according to the info tab
EDIT: And I've tried to use the "system default" setting that supposedly uses directshow on MPC-HC's playback-> output option.

Try these toni;

Secondly, try an MKV first - I had instant results with MKV. If AVI (xvid or divx, etc) doesn't work; UNTICK the XviD/DivX (and any DXVA) transform filters in the internal filter selection. Also change the renderer as well .. mine finally works using EVR PRES.

Hmmm might be because an older version of ffdshow was installed on the laptop, but it works with WMP, just not with MPC-HC.
I'll try to install everything again.

60fps pr0n...
Such a shame that it uses OpenCL when my GPU is a 9600mGT...
And my problem was that it doesn't seem to like MPC-HC x64, works fine with the x86 version.

No, I was wrong. It looks better with advanced. I messed something up with my configuration.
Performance seems to be better for me when watching in Fullscreen and 'Framerate change' forced to 2X instead of syncing to refresh rate within Profile configuration...
