Anyway, just enjoy your game on whatever OS you prefer mate. Wink Tbh I'd rather play all my games on WinXP (games generally seem more responsive) but I see that this choice is more and more limited.

Oh and another argument to support my "clear statement" - that didn't come out of my ass (as you very, very subtle implied it Wink ) - is that a good friend of mine has a Cyber Cafe with over 100 PCs and tons of hardware configurations. Over there too Win7 seems to be more and more favored by clients that play SP games. (When it comes to MP it matters less, as older games like CS 1.6, CS.S, DoTA and MMO's are still very comfortable with XP.)
Well, I checked on whiterun, markarth, riften, right at the beginning too.
Checked with different driver and game versions and finally checked with/without v-sync and d3doverrider running, AA, etc.

Oh and I didn't imply that you were talking out of your ass, just that what might work and be factual on your case certainly doesn't apply to everyone else.
I'm sure that it runs faster for you on win7.
Hell, almost every other game runs better on win7 than on XP, even the ones that you've mentioned.

(My personal) exceptions so far are Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Skyrim.

Well I'd switch to Win7 completely as it sucks to reboot PC just to have some 30 mins of fun after working on 64bit Win7 (usually need more than the 3GB ram).

But the problem is that games for me under Win7 are quite laggy and I've no idea why. Framerate is slightly higher but mouse input is somehow... way too smoother. Actually is so smooth that when FPS drops, it turns into lag. This never happens on WinXP. Sad

Damn this looks amazing! Do the texture mods affect performance?

Most texture mods have a "medium" option. Try the "high" versions first to see how it runs.

I'm not using the mod manager so I'll just list the mods:

Skyrim HD - 2K Textures
Serious HD Retexture Landscape Skyrim (apply it after Skyrim HD like 4treyu suggested some posts ago)
Improved rock and mountain textures - 4096x
Skyrim Flora Overhaul
RWT Realistic Water Textures
Enhanced Distant Terrain
Enhanced Night Skyrim
Enhanced Blood Textures
No More Blocky Faces
Detailed Faces v2
High Quality Eyes
Glowing Ore Veins 300
Improved NPC Clothing - High Res
Realistic Smoke and Embers
Skyrim Sunglare V3
HD Furniture and barrels final
Deadly Spell Impacts
Immersive Skyrim Thunder V4
HiRes Legible Road Signs
High Quality Food and Ingredients
Realistic Paper
Beautiful Skyrim - HD Clutter and Furniture
Realistic Ragdolls and Force

+ this custom FXAA http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1742553#1742553
+ TESV Acceleration Layer for better performance
+ SkyUI

Sadly I deleted the original screens, but I'll make some more in the future (without resizing them) Smile

Nice list ixigia! I have nearly all the same mods than you except for 3 or 4 of them. I'm gonna give a try to that "Improved rock and mountain textures - 4096x" you mentioned.

Also, can you or anyone here point me to the best fxaa injector which doesn't add any other effects (I don't want any sharpening, color grading, etc.) apart from the AA itself? It's for using as proxy with ENB. For Nvidia, thx in advance.

EDIT: Nevermind, just finished a round of tweaking with FXAA PPI and found my ideal settings.

Friend just deleted the game after first attempt netted 130 hours of game play with an unsolvable quest bug that ruined the entire game (earlier saves didn't help). Restarted game, after 30 hours in she encountered another game stopping bug (and corrupted saves) and just deleted it. She paid for it as well.

Meanwhile I finished it without anything but small niggles. It will take a year or more for Beth to sort out the complex bugs inherent to such a complicated interdependent scripting system. Reminds me of the Stalker: ShoC bugs that slowly corrupted save files until it was too late.

I didn't encounter any gamestopping bugs yet, it seems to be hit and miss. I had one autosave going corrupt, but luckily I quicksaved just before that one. Most of the quest bugs can be simply solved with the console btw, no need to stop playing.

Or just stop doing them for a while, and do some other quests and so on, after a while the bugged quest should work fine. Happened few times and that's how I fixed it.

I don't think that's the definition of a broken quest. There are some quests you can't progress before finishing another one, but those are very few (as I've eperienced of course). I only had one instance of a broken quest, the NPC for the next stage was dead, but resurrecting him fixed it. Pretty much anything is fixable via console in this game.

in my experience xp and 7 are about the same fps wise.
xp is more responsive less laggy. sadly it lacks ambient occlusion support ...

to be noted that the latest nvidia betas have fps limiting built in.
you can activate it with nv inspector. that takes care of most of the lag...
after all this is not quake Neutral

or just disable vsync... meh
nice programming with rage after all huh ... 60 fps no input lag, smart vsync... Smile

I didn't like them Sad The colours got fucked up (some horrible blue tint). That's why I installed the vanilla FXAA PPI but disabled every pp effect except for the AA itself.

Prove what? That I use it? It looks better than the lightly tweaked settings I used, which still looked washed out. Everything is more vivid now. It has the vividity of teh ENB mod, without the cartoony effect. Best of both worlds imo.

By reading the final dossier upstairs, the hero can actually sneak attack one of the two Thalmor guards in the Thalmor Embassy Dungeon downstairs. This will take out a significant amount of the guard's health points. Finish him off with unrelenting shout and melee attacks. Now with just one guard left, he should be no match for the hero. On these two guards is the trapdoor key to the Reeking Cave. Find the trapdoor to the Reeking Cave, and enter the Reeking Cave to escape the Thalmor Embassy.

Ah okay there was a bug/glitch. My presence wasn't triggering an event where 2 more guards come in. It finally worked and one of them had the key to the cave. All good now thanks Smile
