They don't need develop HL3 or Episode3. They are perfectly good with Steam, and other projects that give more money. Unless they just want to develop it for fun, to keep the classic games alive.
Newell doesn't "need" to develop anything, he can live the rest of his life without working ever.
Portal 2 was definitely a product that would bring less money than HL3, so anyway it has nothing to do with that. Or when they "wasted" their time by releasing for absolutely free Alien Swarm, they definitely weren't thinking what will make them the most money (technically they lost money with it, since salaries were paid for a product that was released for free).

You may recognise that first symbol from somewhere. Others are also arguing that the stars in the background form lambdas. I’m not too convinced on that one. And of course Wheatley finishes by saying “One, one, one”, which simplistically adds up to 3 (in case you couldn’t do that). But again, that’s perhaps reaching. I’ve yet to see anyone trying to interpret what appears to be a barcode at the bottom though. So, go on you lot, solve it.
In other news, Valve are probably making Half-Life 3.

actually i agree. i do believe that a new HL game is in the making and i do believe, that Valve are trolling the fans on purpose. i wouldn`t be surprised if we have HL3 by the end of spring 2012. thats something that Valve are totally capable of doing. all i hope is that the game is long enough.
