1) The infected ARGers are playing at Valve's HQ right now. Also Valve gave them tons of swag etc.
2) Game's awesome.
3) They were chosen because they were very active on irc and they added them on Steam and told them to call Valve's offices for more.
4) Valve told them the game has no relation to Ep3 at all. They won't answer any of their Ep3 questions either.
5) Infected user Dougley went rogue and posted stuff about the Borealis etc which wasn't Valve's instructions. Dougley=troll. Of course Valve didn't invite him to play.
6) Right now along with the infected players all indie developers of the 13 potato games are at Valve's HQ. It was a really big collaboration afterall.

"The Ball" just finished and knocked another hour off the counter, now it will end at around 11pm (PST) tonight, the 18th. Hopefully it stays around this time cause I get home at 10:30. That gives me a half hour to get a quickie in with my wife, eat some dinner, use the bathroom, and get ready for an all-nighter.

Nah, counter is at 51 minutes now. there are two games left. It's about 15 minutes until midnight EST so I'm thinking it'll be soon. No worries on my end. I just finished the SP on the 360. Patiently waiting for the PC version so I can play through it again and see how much better it is.
Amazing game. The ending was pretty awesome. The song isn't as good as the one in Portal 1 though.

| consolitis wrote: | | rayida wrote: | My guess is it will release early, but no matter what happens, it will not release any earlier than 00:01 (some US time zone) Tuesday am. Valve (or EA in the case of hardcopies?) presumably have written agreements with retailers that they must not sell the game prior to a particular date - in turn, retailers will expect that steam not release the game for purchase prior to the time that they are permitted to sell it. The compromise is, if a retailer wishes to open their doors for a midnight launch on the 19th they can, similarly, if valve wish to release it after midnight on the 19th, they can too.
EDIT: this correlates with the graph at the link posted by tskiller a couple of posts above. At the moment, it's pointing to it finishing 7 hours ahead of schedule. But given that people are focussing on certain games, as less games need to be completed, that countdown should decrease exponentially - if my mumblings above are correct, that won't happen. |
How do you know it wasn't on their contract they reserve the right to release it up to 1-2 days earlier? A lot of planning went into this.
Furthermore Steam is their own store perhaps the rules don't apply there because they self publish it. For example preloading is in a sense breaking the release date. |
I don't... but if you were the head buyer in the PC software department for say BestBuy with however many thousands of stores they have across the US, and Valve hands you a contract that says you aren't allowed to sell any of this items prior to a certain date or suffer certain penalties, do you really thinkthat same buyer, who is agreeing to purchase several thousand copies of the game is going to put his store at a disadvantage by not holding valve to similar terms?
Sorry, I know that now it has passed midnight in the east coast time zone, I am speaking with the benefit of hindsight, but towards the end, when it didn't release on Friday, it became obvious that this is what was planned all along.
