Asus p8z68 pro is a better choice. Overclocks better, and an UEFI bios along with Asus's superior control options.

I disagree. Motherboard is what you want to spend the most on within reason. It's going to be the part you are stuck with.

Yeah but it doesn't effect the performance in any notable way...If I can choose between 100$ and 200$ motherboard I'll always spend that extra 100$ on a better CPU or GPU, rather on a mobo with a bunch of features I don't really need. If I have the extra money, then sure I'd get a good mobo, but only after I was fully satisfied with my other components.

It doesn't effect performance (usually) but it's more of a case of having the better options, stability, and other things that typically make for a good motherboard.
I've dealt with enough shitty motherboards to never want to deal with it again.

Why wouldn't you go for the i5? The SB series i5s are by far the best value for money you can get, simply due to the extreme performance and overclockability.

I am still happy with my current setup (sig) which Ive choosen and installed every element myself over 4 years ago. Thats the first pc which i bought entirely for my own hard worked money. Well, Then I was up to date and those were some of most powerfull parts then;)
Tho ive first got 8800gts 320mb (big ass fucking brick) and exchanged it for what I have now.
Well it begins to age rapidly now, with consoles weakening, but it still holds up besides high temperatures ,even after completly cleaning with replacing heatsink everywhere, even on gpu.

Actually - three. The third being the 32nm shrink of Nehalem - Westmere.

Good point, though Westmere was simply a die shrink *and* it was originally called Nehalem-C.

Core i5 I5-2500K 6 MB
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (rev. 1.0)
2x4GB Kingston 1600 DDR3
I am also considering buying a Corsair H60 Hydro Series cooler. I'm going to wait with HDD and also GFX..partly because of budget issues and maybe their price will go down a bit in january cause of the 7900 series coming, but im not sure, curious what you think. for GFX I was considering a 560Ti. I also maybe have access to a 57XX AMD card so maybe that will tide me over for some time.
My main question I suppose is concerning the motherboard if its a decent choice or if there is something else in the same price I should be looking at! The RAM I looked at are just Kingston value, is there significant performance increase to find in other types that don't cost too much more? |
Don't bother with the H60; you can get cheaper air coolers that perform just as well, things like a ThermalTake Frio or Noctua DH-14.
As for videocard: wait. Even if not to actually wait for price drops, but rather to wait for people selling their 560/570's and 6950/6970's. If the figures I'm hearing for their specs and performance are correct, the new AMD cards will be pretty awesome; I would provide some proof, but it's all talk at the moment, AMD have not officially presented any figures yet.
Don't bother with Kingston ValueRAM, it's unstable crap. RAM is so cheap right now that you should just get Corsair's XMS or something similar
As for the motherboard, I'm not 100% up to date on SB motherboards, so take the other people's word for that

@werelds: I will look in to Corsair XMS, thx for that. I was going to wait with GFX regardless. I probably wont buy a used one, though.
@KillerCrocker ..I'm sure that there are more powerful CPU's out there but this is built on a budget and the i7-2600k is over a 100 dollars more here.

No, it isn't. However, I would get a motherboard with UEFI support, and loaded with a wealth of other things that just make it easier to use.
You'll be stuck with the motherboard for the life of the system. Might as well invest wisely.

I dunno lot about that mobo but my last experience with Asus wasn't good. Ehm the 2500k doesn't really need water cooling, it will hit an over clock barrier before it gets to hot. Unless you run heavy tasks 24/7 I think that is a waste of money.
