If I ever come across a game that has dozens/hundreds of uniquely designed quests, it'll be the last game I'll play since it'll be perfection. Sadly, an RPG needs quest rcyclage to last beyond 20 hours. Atleast this time the gameworld is very well desgined and inviting.

i am still exploring and shit , just took an on feet trip from whiterun to the gildergeeen place passing on the twin towers cleared them of bandits , took me about 2 hours to do

that's what i call a fucking adventure and the great thing is when i reached gildergreen i felt it was worth it like a little peace of paradise after a long journey

I don't use the horse for exactly that reason. Walking the wilds has some scenes and moments that just make it feel like an epic journey.

agreed. they should be able to clip or otherwise teleport back to you if they get lost. i found some lighthouse up in the north full of dead bodies and a misc quest 'discover the source of the murders'. inside there was a spot where i had to jump down a cliff that i couldnt climb back up to progress, and my npc didnt follow me. she disappeared for about 4 in game days...then appeared when i went into a shop at random, like she had been following me the whole time. woulda made more sense if she just followed me into that cave 4 days ago (even if she teleported to my side or something)...or at least said something about being lost or whatever...

I had the same problem. Look at the dates on the saves. Delete the latest one or two, including the automatic backups. In my case, it was the quicksave and its backup that were corrupt. It forced ALL other saves to show as corrupt. The one that was actually corrupt said something like "This save is for version 0 and is version 8" or some shit. Deleted both of those files and every other save worked after that (for me)

Uhh... just delete the textures folder entirely, it's basically an override for the textures.bsa that the game loads the textures from by default.

run this on a ati 4870 just fine.. the specs for playing the game in my eyes were over the top.

#3: You'll be fine. I'm playing on my i5-2500k/GTX260 (GTX560-TI comes end of this month) on Ultra (except shadows are tweaked via ini file).

Means, if you actually want to buy the game but not pay for DLC (cause you hate them) then PC should be your choice too.

About done with tweaking the game, pretty satisfied with what I've managed to improve although overall it's pretty subtle but I like the results, fully stable as well. Smile
(Now to try the odd commands in Skyrim.ini and see what else I can achieve.)

Could probably be improved further but there's still some commands to figure out.

EDIT: The odd commands I talked about.

[combat]
bForceNPCsUseAmmo=0
bAimSights=0
bLaserSights=0

I guess the first one is forcing NPC to use arrow instead of having unlimited, they're pretty bad though and often have less than ten arrows so if it works (remnant from fallout 3 I guess like the two others.) it would likely be a bit unbalancing.

Those other two probably don't do anything unless they alter bow behavior but I doubt it.

There's also this bDismemberOneLimb=0 and bDisableNPCAttacks=0 but I think they're mostly for debugging, unsure what the first one would do but the second seems to hinder combat which would be very unbalancing and possibly game breaking.


Under [Interface] there's also bShowInventory3D=1 but I guess it would break the inventory if altered as I doubt items have actual icons now.


Under [Vats] there's bVATSDisable=0 but I think it would just bug out rather than disable the kill animations entirely.


Under [Gameplay] these
bAllowHavokGrabTheLiving=1
bEssentialTakeNoDamage=1

Allow to grab unconscious NPC and the second to kill quest essential (And otherwise protected.) NPC but won't work on scripted protections some NPC use (Ulfric apparently to name one.) also some NPC are using this for quest to simulate dying without actually being killed and those quests (Molag Bal quest line for example.) would break with this altered.


Under [Havok] I altered this setting as well since it allows dragging heavier objects, default is 90 units - fMoveLimitMass=250.0000

My ancient PC:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.2GHz Socket 939
1.75GB DDR1 RAM
GTX 460 1GB

Running at 1920x1080 and the Skyrim launcher auto detects to "High" settings.

In some small caves I can get 60fps, but on average I usually get about 25-30fps. The really laggy areas like Markarth give me around 17fps. The lowest I've seen is probably about 13fps.

For me, it's still more than playable, but of course people have different levels of tolerance (i.e. pr0 gamers).

My HD4850 also gets auto-detected to "High" but I played around and raised some settings, and I still usually have around ~40-50 FPS. Cities give some trouble (Solitude, Makarth, Riften) - it drops down, but the lowest is around ~20. The game is very CPU-bound though, so I'm pretty sure that's the bottleneck.
