Sadly no, you have to have the game actually REMOVED from your account by Valve.. and to do that they demand photos of your legitimate receipt - key warehouses aren't allowed, apparently.

Gambryo is not a game engine, it's a renderer. Bethesda uses their own tools, built around that renderer. Now they have switched to their own renderer. Am I wrong calling Gamebryo an "engine"? Yes, it appears so and for that I apologise. Am I (and many, many others) wrong for saying Bethesda are LYING when they state it's not Gamebryo running Skyrim? Nope. I'm not.

engine includes many things like tools, scripts and stuff.
a renderer is a renderer
remember the days when Unreal Engine had a software renderer ?
welp, the sw renderer was not made by Epic, it was 3rd party.
but still the engine was unreal engine.

Try using stable drivers


These new beta drivers are supposed to improve Skyrim so that is why I installed them. Reverting to the last official set still has the same problem for me so at least I know it is not a driver issue.

Correct (Which is great.) this includes the missed (updated) BSA archives.

It seems to have fixed most of the UI irregularities, but for me has also introduced a new one where I cannot take a book anymore (default key is E).

How is it Gambryo if they're no longer using that renderer? They should call their own tools and renderer for "Gamebryo" just because it was once built around that renderer? Uh, no. ...and I think i rather blame Bethesda for the shitty LOD etc than the creators of Gamebryo since it's not their doing.

Bethesda: "uh, is it ok if we continue to call this Gamebryo?"
Gamebryo: "oh sure that could be good.. lets have a look at your stuff... ah, oh, noo. uh.. let us get back to you on that subject."

Hey Jbeckman, small q. Tried your latest INI setup and while it does make it look even better i'm curious, do you have any idea which of those options affect cpu load?

Cause it's gotten to the point where i drop to like 25-30 fps overlooking a town and my gpu sits at a measly 60% in those cases. I'm guessing the LOD and whatnot has to do with it + object/actor fade.

If i could actually cap it at 30 fps i guess it would be fine, but feels rather bad going to 60 then jerkin down to 30.

WTF?

Installed Razor release and Update repack -because where the fuck is 3DM?- and now when I try to start a new game it says "LOOKUP FAILED".

Also menu items are like $NEW, $QUIT, etc which looks bizarre and stupid.

Anyone seen this?

There isn't really much to do in order to reduce CPU strain, it's simply how the game engine works.

I could be wrong so I'll have another check at it but since they've made the game engine more multi core friendly and better threaded it will be very demanding on the CPU, likely why I also notice next to no framerate difference other than changing the screen resolution itself.


EDIT: Also updated Skyrim and SkyrimPrefs ini files further.

EDIT: Oh right I forgot these are not using MSAA and instead FXAA plus sD3DDevice="AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series" might be needed to set to what you use.

iMultiSample (0 to 16)
bFXAAEnabled (1 or 0)

(Plus screen resolution of course and possibly also iPresentInterval to either 1 or 0 depending on VSync preferences.)

(It can always be improved but I put most values as high as it can go, of course I can't load more areas than the game does / more cells active, so there will be low-detail LOD and landscape changes further away but it wouldn't really work at all otherwise.)

This game is PC unfriendly as hell. How do I loot someone and exit the inventory screen? I have to loot everything or else I can't exist the looting screen. Very irritating. Also, how does one sprint? It says SHIFT in the controls menu but shift actually makes my character walk in a very slow pace.

Press R to take everything which autocloses the screen or loot what you want with E and press TAB to exit. What part of that is difficult?

Despite my annoyance at the terrible consolized interface, and the many things that were broken in Oblivion and are still broken, the game is a lot of fun. I played for 11 hours or so yesterday and have barely scratched the surface.

I usually go with magic but I decided my first play through would be with a dual wielding independence loving crazy barb... The dual wielding speed perk in the one handed tree made a good difference, can't wait for the final 50% more dmg one.

Sprint is left-alt. Run is shift, but by default the game is set to auto-run (toggle by capslock), so shift becomes walk and not run. As for menus? E is "ok" and TAB is "cancel" or "back"

I haven't been caught stealing, not even once, yet I was walking through town and suddenly bumped into a bunch of hired mercenaries, who almost kicked my arse (had to reload a couple of times Shocked) - they had a contract on them.. a contract taken out against ME! For some reason, someone wanted "the thief Sabine" to be "taught a lesson" lololol Very Happy
