Clipmapping is hardly anything revolutionary.

Yeah, yeah, just nobody could make anything useful out of it until Carmack came.

Since it doesn't look anything good, neither Carmack has created something useful so far.

So. . .for the animation retarded out there - this video is a fake. . .or what? It looks like the bottom of a pool, or some dingy flat in San Fran with all that blue.

Nothing of Carmack "looks good" it runs fast - this is what matters.

Can you do better? If not, you better start praising it.

It hardly runs faster because of clipmapping. Prebaked illumination and static world, now that's more likely.

You didn't get the point: making clipmapping run fast - that's the achievement.
And Lionhead expanded it to dynamic light sources.

Fully dynamic lighting? What are you talking about? There is no such thing.

Welcome to 2001 when severance already had it...

And even if everything was lit dynamically, this scene is so LOW poly, that it doesn't even matter if there is real time global illumination, dynamic lighting and whatever... Cryengine 3 can do this scene without a hassle. Just a good tonemap and the right selection of light sources..

*btw the shadows are most probably pre rendered as we can see in the video where there is an entrance on the right of the wall and you can see that the shadow blurs out*

Ok so far we have SSAO, glow, vignette, noise, 480p to 720p upscale shit, HD NoiZâ„¢, Mega textureâ„¢ and real-colorâ„¢.

With the Luminous engine they're getting closer to realistic lighting (which is THE most important factor in creating a realistic game world). But I can't say I'm impressed with the 10 second clip and the screenshots. We need a proper tech demo that people can run on their own DX11 systems.

It also shows where next-gen consoles are going: DX11/11.1 or some variant of it.

Does the quote button not work for you?

The clip and the screens are too sterile and short to make any judgement. Useless.

Too tedious, you know. There is such thing as "select and quote" in 2011, but not on this forum.

When you need to answer to specific sentences and hate over-quoting you need to do a lot of editing after pushing the button.

They won't make it. They'll lose face if they make a bad one, and they'll lose money if they make a good one. So, the best strategy is to wait.

Running on i7-3770K 3.5GHz, GTX 680, 32GB RAM.

The CPU was hardly stressed (it's a scripted demo, so it makes sense, all the load is on the GPU. If it was a real game with real AI etc the CPU would be stressed as well), the texture data used 1.8GB of the VRAM and it ran at 1080p@60.

Because they haven't yet set out the "official" system specs for running this. Oh, and also GeForce 890 isn't announced yet.
