that's what i'm talking about, every1 goes like: "OMG SEE, ID SOFTWARE'S RAGE! GOTTA BE GODLIKE". Ofcourse, these expectations are blown. But if you don't expect it to be perfect or anything, you play an avarage FPS, which is pretty much playable.

The hype was created by the developer/publisher mostly, of course people will expect brilliance.

But at least in Borderlands, I was expecting the end to happen then. I didn't feel this unresolved feeling like I did when I beat Rage. Don't get me wrong though, I still enjoyed the hell outta it. This is what game will look like in seven to ten years, except the textures will look even better up close than they do from far away. New tech, new problems, new detractors, new bitch-fests, etc.
Of course, this is coming from a lifelong gamer (Pong, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Commodore64, etc.) who has seen his fair share of issues with new gaming tech (can you say DreamCast?)

Nui wrote: | So you think you couldn't have these looks (which is just level-design, since everything is static) without mega texturing? |
I know that it could be done, but the amount of space that it would require and the speed of hardware would be immense. Current-gen hardware would probably have a ton of texture pop-in (more than what was already prevalent) and would look awesome.
Afaik, the megatextures allow for better/faster texture streaming of unique art assets at the expense of graphical quality. But I'm no videogame programmer, so I'm probably wrong.
The key is, there is always another way to accomplish a task (skin a cat, as it were). Inevitably, someone will find a better way to either implement megatextures or find a better way without megatextures.
I will say this, even as underwhelming as the story/ending was/is to me, I cannot remember a game where I was in constant awe at the world that was created by the artists. Sure, there were plenty of things that were quite ugly, but when you are hauling ass while shooting a caravan of bandits, all of that melts away into 60FPS magical goodness. And it should, being that this game, at its heart, is a console game with a, somewhat better than average, port to PC.

Underwhelming game that could have been so much better. Even the graphics are underwhelming, it has moments where it looks really good (mostly in settlements) but those moments are in my opinion far and few between. |
the game is great. it's a perfect fps. a lot better than any of the current fps games.

Graphics technology isn't about some landscape screenshots, derps. It's about physics, animations, realistic effects like water simulation (at least visually), true lighting, open world to explore etc etc.
From what I've played, this is a generic fps with mostly shit gfx assets.

Did you not forget to remove the atioglxx.dll from the rage folder? (if you added that before?)
or use the new one if you didnt try that yet: http://www.multiupload.com/AUCKY16MEA |
Haven't added it before and didn't know about that. Thanks.

only 40 US$ for me.
it's not a bad game at all, but it could really have been better for sure. Visuals are nice but buggy; gameplay is still OK but repetitive; game length is all the time cut by these stupid races you have absolutely to win in order to progress in the storyline. Dead island is better for me.

Last patch improves textures and reduces pop-up for me - I'm still taking my time playing thru and I still quite like it ... guess I'm easy pleased
