Finally, the game looks pretty much how I want. Some higher resolutions textures here and there would be perfect, but if we'll see something like that it will be in the not so near future, so for now it's perfect.

Now, what still bothers me is that I'm not able to play with analog combat on mouse + keyboard and I'm still very interested in that Ryder dlc. Also, I was thinking about swapping the skills of a character that I'm interested to play with with one's that I like how it looks. Is anybody willing to help me do that?

Yes. Extract varlist_ssao and put everything in it on 0, then put it back in data0.pak.

How many hours it took you and how much side-quest content you did? Smile Some people have said that they beat the game in ten hours and some say more like 25.

Ten hours here, middle of act 2 (Or maybe even further, chapter 7 I think.) with around twelve hours and around 40 quests though ten or so are still active and five or six are of that sort you can repeat forever if you have the required items.
(Good source of certain items like diamonds though.)

EDIT: Also as for skills wouldn't renaming the xml files in "\Data\Skills" to basically swap character and attributes work.
(Translation might be a bit off during the character selection menu but that's minor.)

SpotShadowSize can be set to 4096 without it crashing, DX10/DX9 shaders doesn't really change anything but it can be kept as it will use what it can find.
(There is only SM3 shaders and there's only DX9 support but maybe it'll be patched, would be nice for say proper AA support.)

Seems like 1.2.0 was indeed the patch with the 32 fixes. Or is there a new one that popped up?
Hopefully someone cracks the .exe since everyone is using the old RLD .exe.

1.1.0 fixed that, 1.2.0 fixes co-op and some other things based on what's mentioned on the Steam forums and the files in the .pak archives they updated.

For some bonus performance. It looks pretty much the same as far as I know anyway. JB, SpotShadowSize on 4096 from 2048 has a big performance hit? I had it on 4096 at first, but I put it on 2048 in hope I'll get some bonus performance from that too.

So if you let the files out of the .pak doesn't crash?

Honestly I haven't seen what exactly SpotShadowSize covers and I can't see a difference either in visuals or performance but 4096 "stuck" without having to write-protect the video.scr file and it did not crash as 4096 normal shadows seems to do in many cases (Worked OK for some time but started crashing again and I have nothing to go on why that is but hopefully it can be solved.), game runs at near 80 FPS here so I've been tinkering with various files to improve LOD and other settings even further but there's a lot of things to go through so I've not had much progress

Exe has updated for every patch but since it's only 500 KB I don't think it does much for the game other than protection, main is the game .dll file and it's engine counterpart so I don't think it affects much to use only that as a older version. Smile

EDIT: The game uses various motion blur techniques and soft depth of field, many get dizziness or headache when a lot of this is happening plus the games head-bob motion simulation and such on top of this.

EDIT: And that about the FoV.

Its the FOV. Default is 62.5 , try changing it to 90 and your head will be fine.

Yondaime wrote:
Maybe already mentioned but...

Want to change the FOV?

Open up the Data0.pak file from Dead Island\DI\ with WinRAR, extract the default_levels.xml file.

Put it in:
Reloaded version:
Dead Island\DI\out\data\skills

STEAM/legit version:
The equivalent place (I suppose Documents\Dead Island\DI\out\data\skills?). If you don't have a data or a skills folder, just make them.

Then open up the default_levels.xml file and edit the FOV, it will apply to the game. No need to rebuild anything. I guess you could change more stuff in it but the FOV works for me now. Changed it to 75 at 1080p with a 32inch screen, 90 felt kind of like a fish eye, 80 was still to much for me. 75 felt just fine.

Aren't those shadows casted by lightning sources? I'll put it back on 4096 probably... Also, if you have any luck with the LOD, keep us updated.

Look at the screenshots I posted and see if what gives you that headache is gone in those.

Shame, you're not let to go on exploring after finishing the game. Still, you can start off a new campaign with all the gear and upgraded statistics you beat the game with.
