You been lucky then cos go on the Tripwire forums and there are shitloads of common bugs. I had numerous crashes in my 3 hours of playing and performance is all over the place. It is a beta so it's to be expected but it's a bit surprising to me given the engine. I thought they'd have a handle on it and given that they already delayed the release date I guess I expected they'd bought the time to add the "polish" they said they were applying.
The server browser is the worst problem - many are having problems with that and cos of CTDs at that point it's shit doing anything to try and get the game running how you like it cos you can end up rebooting the game numerous times before you are successful at playing it.
It's a beta tho...

Haven't had a single crash and performance is better than expected with my almost ancient computer. Only issues so far is the controls feeling a bit clunky, especially the lack of any "hold to" controls instead of just toggles and the cover system feels difficult to use properly.

If you still haven't picked up this, in my opinion, great game the Digital Deluxe Edition is available at GMG for a total of a 35% reduced price using the following code:
20SUM-MERSA-VINGS
What I've been able to tell GMG's summersale coupons were to expire today or yesterday, but somehow this "survived", as I bought my copy of RO2 DDE using this code just a few hours ago.

I don't think the box art they decided to go with does this game any justice. Here's something a bit more true to the actual spirit of the game -
Spoiler: | |
The fact that they had the balls to price this as a full title simply boggles my fucking mind.
After 8 hours or so of playing the beta, I can confidently say that no less than 7 of those hours have been spent prone, in a stairwell or other shadowy place, mowing people down as they run across my iron-sights.
As soon as you make any semblance to fucking move to a place with more than 1 sight line...zing...dead...across the map, whether it be from MG, carbine, or SMG.
Tactical is one thing (by the way, how is bandaging a bullet wound you just sustained to your own back, in less than 2 seconds, tactical? ), but this shit is just fucking ludicrous.
All ranting aside, does anyone know STEAM's refund policy on pre-orders? I've always eaten my bad purchases....but this...this just fucking hurts knowing I wasted $40.
I've now experienced the digital equivalent of watching paint dry on a wall!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

You have terrible, terrible taste in games.
Oh, and by the way, it's not priced as a AAA title.

No offense but someone who has clocked almost 600 hours in the console crap that is BC2 is hardly qualified to have a say in what FPS games are good and what are bad.

Don't worry the Bf3 beta will be coming out this month anyway.
That means only the men will be left to play RO2;)
Some of the best tank combat I've ever seen in a game is in RO2.

Thanks for your impressions Immunity. I was thinking about buying this game and was cautious and afraid it would be just camp-fests. While I get it some people like camping, as it's more realistic than run and gun. In this case I appreciate action above realism. Thank you for saving me $40

No offence, and no trolling intended whatsoever, but what makes his opinion not worth listening to - but yours is? Just because he isn't full of gushing praise, doesn't mean his opinion is any less worthwhile.

It's the same as if I would call Counter-Strike the shittiest game made cause I die in 5 seconds when I run around using nothing but the knife.
Someone should learn how to play the game before shitting on it.

Time doesn't matter if one refuses to learn.
If you're still dying from someone you didn't see after 8 hours of playing, you're doing it wrong.

To be fair to that guy I kinda agree.
Its u3 engine yet it runs like shit, utter shit. Zooming on weapons? Lol this is supposed to be RO why dont they just add attack choppers lol. The cover system is bugged to shit and ENTIRELY fucking useless. It doesnt really look impressive, all 3 of the maps could be in the origional, it just looks like RO but with blur coating everything. Lean anim STILL looks retarded all these years later. And as that guy said its just as campy as the original

It's a beta for a start and really nobody should be saying whether this game is worth buying yet or not for that very reason. I certainly haven't - it's a punt if you don't understand what the RO franchise is all about. If I hadn't played RO1 I'd almost certainly think this was shit cos it just does not play like any other fps game I've played, is very buggy and doesn't look as nice as most. But I'd not jump to the conclusion that the game had to be rated on that basis.
How many games have you played beta in that were really fuckin' poor but you knew what the devs were trying to do because you UNDERSTOOD the franchise and knew they were gonna be hot? Everyone is of course entitled to an opinion but surely some opinions are more qualified than others?

Negating any of the standard pre-order discounts, its $40. Budget titles (ex. mods, indies) are priced at $30 or less in my book. And technically, if you want in the beta, it's $49.99 (again, negating pre-order discounts).

I've also clocked somewhere around 1200 hours in the very non-console crap BF2, countless more in BF1942, and just about every other online shooter past and present.
Devaluing my opinion based on the assumption that all I play is in my signature is a touch short-sighted.

That may be, but they don't bill it as a tank simulator, now do they?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against tactics, or realism. What I am against (and what drives me up a fucking wall), is when games purport to value realism, and they're anything but.
This game would work wonderfully IF the terrain and objective locations were randomly generated. As it stands, game-play simply devolves into a camp/counter-camp scenario on every map. That's all it boils down to.
I suppose I can somewhat understand how people might find that fun (or get some sort of buzz off thinking "hey, I'm laying here prone for the past 15 minutes waiting for a pixel to move, this is just like real war!" ).
Honestly I just posted my impressions to perhaps save someone expecting something different the hassle/potential waste of their money on this overpriced mod.
