Ok im at the cross roads here ive been enjoying this system for a while now and despite the random restarts (due to crappy power supply i think) I'm not sure if I should upgrade this to something more current

AMD Athlon XP2400
Epox 8RDA
Radeon 9700 Pro
1GB PC3200 DDR400
120GB Seagate Barracuda
19inch Hansol 920D

I've been thinking faster CPU? and maybe a new GFX card/Mobo? or should i just leave the whole thing and spend my money on something else?

Razz

I have a P4E 3Ghz with 1GB ram and i just upgraded my gfx card from a radeon 9500pro to a x800xl (agp). This computer has to make it throught the next years of gaming, so i invested in a agp card. There is a real difference between the two gfx cards, now i can play all games in 1280x960 and all details on max (left out d3. but this is a piece of crap anyway Razz)

My rig is similar to yours Razz A Radeon X800 XL is a great upgrade, the card offers maximum bang for the buck (€299), or you could opt for a GeForce6600 GT (€180). Recent videocards use a lot of power, so a new PSU would be mandatory.

An Athlon64 3200 (€170) is recommendable as well, but then you'll need a new mobo as well Gigabyte's GA-K8NF9 is pretty cheap (€90), and offers PCI-E x16 Smile

is PCI-Express really worthwhile investing into? I dont see the point when agp cards are still kicking reasonable ass, and 64bit cpu? how much of a difference would I notice if i upgraded these two components (well three including mobo)

Forget the word 64bit, just look at the clock speed, as the 64 means almost nothing right now. As for PCI-E, the latest gen of PCI-E cards are the first truely worthwhile, but I doubt your going to see much of a difference in performance by spending £400 upgrading your mobo and gfx card then leaving the old CPU in.

Your system is sitting in a state of being old over all, to get an noticable performance difference you need to upgrade a number of parts. New CPU, Mobo, GFX card and some new ram (well no, 1gb DDR400 should be fine Smile).. My point being, if you only upgrade one thing, your still going to have major bottle necks.
