Haven't listened to it myself, but I believe it's extracted from the game itself, so expect, I dunno, 160kbps quality.

EDIT: 224 kbps, actually.

Thanks for that, good stuff.

Seems quite a few of them are 320kbps, as well.

I have finished Deus Ex 1 back in 2000 when it was released and thought it was one of the best games I had ever played, despite the clunky shooting mechanics. But with a stealthy approach it was very enjoyable. Even with some flaws it was one of the best singleplayer experiences you could have.

I'm currently playing Deus Ex 2 as it didn't work on any of my previous computers. It feels very much dumbed down for the derpboxes and the interface is crap, but is still enjoyable in terms of storyline and the non-linear approach you can take in solving quests. Unfortunately the shooting is still clunky but again you can take the stealth approach.
Most irritating for me are the really small levels and long loading times each time you switch levels. And the graphics are absolutely shit by today's standards.

A huge complaint about this game (among others) was the derp graphics. Fortunately, the "artistpavel" of the day for that series solved the issue with hi-res retextures that are quite good. You can download his pack here: FilePlanet

You can also check out his DX:IW homepage, with before/after comparisons here: John-P.com (currently it's down cuz of "bandwidth issues")

Btw. I am getting 50-60fps but its jumping and stuttering framerates. Is that normal with this beta?

It's the first 10 or so hours of play. Some journalists are guesstimating it's roughly 20-25% of the final game.

10 hours is 25% ... maybe with all sidequest and all.

So I am good to try it out then. I am hoping It will be no more tha 40% of full game spoiled

For me the biggest show stopper in DE2 was that goddman gay HUD. So... clumsy and eyehurting.

I really did stop playing it after 3rd or so level because of the overall clumsiness.

Deus Ex 2 get a lot of unwarranted shit. Sure it's far from it's predecessor in term of quality and it's dumbed down but it's still a pretty decent game as far as i'm concerned.

The again i'm a huge sucker for the Deus Ex universe so i'm probably biased Razz

Glad to help. If you haven't installed patch 1.2, it helps considerably with the performance issues and some graphic effects, including I think the HUD (gets pushed out to the screen edges a bit I think). Have fun!

Played some with that beta. ITS FUCKING FANTASTIC!!! Music, graphics(technicly and arty), crispness of the display, performance(2,6c2d 8800gt here) is gret.

Loving voice acting and that incredible future world. Hope the whole game is as good as that 1st hour Ive played. GOTY when it comes out. Peroid.

The game seems quite ok, but whats really breaking immersion is the amount of non-interactive clutter in the interiors. I'd rather have a slightly empty-looking room than loads of static clutter... no need for yellow overlays then. Or make all clutter interactive/pickupable... but that'll be the console limitation Sad

Yeah. There is plenty of details in the environment and interiors. Maybe they will make some of this interactive? They are still working on it. Tho this beta is very stable and works almost like finished product

I'd say it's more like "engine limitation" or "lazybones limitation". Just take a look at Crysis 2: there are tons of things to pick up and throw around. Yea, not as much as Crysis (1), but still, more than Deus Ex HR.

Maybe they didn't want to leave them static for people whose cards can't do PhysX, so they left them static for everybody.

Personally, I prefer that the items be there even if I can't pick them up. It makes the spaces feel more inhabited than a sterile clean desk with a couple of interactive objects on them.

Maybe nixxes will consider making more objects interactive on the PC, since they are handling the PC port and they are supposedly more familiar with the engine being used since many of them are Ex Crystal Dynamics staff.

I could see why they added the yellow highlight for stuff, the amount of clutter on the desks and what not really is obscene at times, I've spent way too much time walking around thinking I could pick up stuff that I couldn't really pick up at all.

I'm tempted to leave the thing on just because I want to save time and not trying to interact with stuff that is just there for the visual effect.

I bought it and enjoyed it.A lot of people harped on it but I wasn't one of them. Some people will bitch about anything.I never did try the HD texture pack or mods.Think I am going to grab it out of my game boxes in the garage and reinstall it and add all the goodies and try it out. Smile

IMO, finding stuff like a tucked away pocket secretary after careful observation while having the highlight off feels very rewarding.

Invisible War was a piece of shit compared to Deus Ex. I know people like to rewrite history when they're desperate for a decent game, and because it's one of the few games in this genre it gets a lot of leeway.

The thing is, though, that it's the genre/subgenre that works - not the game.

Deus Ex - and games like System Shock practically invented this subgenre.

Invisible War and Alpha Protocol are both "ok" based on them using these established mechanics and concepts. They're both living off the fat of what other people made. Warren Spector was obviously a part of inventing the genre, so IW doesn't exactly steal from others - but he certainly did what he could to ruin it.

Tiny cramped levels because of the Xbox limitations. Totally needless "streamlining" of ammo. Horrible (really horrible) UI and inventory. Removal of skills - without sufficient compensation. Awkward dialogues and characters - especially given the horrid models. Combat feel was crap (yeah, DE1 was also crap - but it was busy innovating a lot) - which is one area you would expect them to at least improve it.

Yes, the core Deus Ex gameplay is intact - but it's inexcusably poor beyond that. The thing you do when you develop a sequel is you IMPROVE upon it. You don't make it MUCH worse.

The level design is pretty much the most important aspect of this kind of gameplay. Look to Deus Ex 3 for why this is. You want huge and varied levels, with a lot of secrets and extra stuff. Invisible War utterly destroyed itself with the awful levels.

I can only assume that people with a strong fondness for IW are easy to please, or they've forgotten what made the genre so great in the first place.
