So on those secondary mission "street crimes", is it possible to take a less than lethal approach? A lot of the times the objective says to "subdue the suspect", which I don't take to mean kill. I've tried shooting them in the hand, arms, legs...always end up killing the perp. Am I missing something?
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Doh... sorry, I thought you meant system update. Yes, there's a way to install patches (they're called title updates) - but first you need to wait for someone to actually provide them.
http://marketplace.xboxmodder.com/updates/index.php
That should be getting hold of the TU soon(is). Hopefully... I'm now offline with my 360 due to the launch of the new dashboard, which I won't be installing.

If you haven't completed traffic and homicide yet, dont read it:
Spoiler: |
WTF is this "i've written down the platenumber of the car" in 2 cases bartenders say: i dont know who has taken mrs.xy away but i've written down the platenumber of the car. Why would anyone write down a plate number normally?
This is bullshit.
And of course not to mention that from the start of the homicide desk i already knew that im chasing the wrong guys, yet the game forces me to accuse "fake" suspects.
And in the end a whole chapter ("moon murders case" or smthg like that) revolves around tracking down the real suspect responsible for all the homicide cases i previously "solved".
What's the point of investigation then?
I would have preffered the "logical investigation in cases" and not this "investgating dumb things", but then the end of the homicide desk will be a big "WTF, what a twist".
At least 3 cases ended like this:
Detective: And you know who left with mrs xy?
Guy: Yes, she left with a red shirt wearing guy
Detective: Okay, and where is he?
Guy: There!
Detective: HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!
We run like hell, catch him, case closed.
So this makes investigation totally pointless since I catch guys only by accident. Which is okay for 1 case, but most of the cases happened like this so far.
And one other thing: (a bug)
When using cars, my partner would accidentaly dissapear from my car, running after it.

http://www.xbuc.net/ has the update
digiex.net is also a good source for future reference (has the Fallout NV TU4)
e: oh and yea, playing them from usb is real easy
-format USB on XBOX 360
-put it on pc
-install and use USBXTAFGUI
-mount usb in it
-inject Title Update in Cache Partition -> Cache
Just make sure you don't clear System Cache on your usb, or you will wipe the TU off. This method works for 99.99% of TU's. The only exception I know of is the latest Fallout NV update that requires you to install the game disk on the USB and inject the TU in there.

No, not exactly. From what I remember, Multiman can read NTFS drives but cannot mount images from them. You therefore have to copy the image/folders over to the internal drive like normal.
You could format the drive to Fat32 presuming there are no big files. Fat 32 mounts properly.

I have all the 3 discs installed on HDD.....the TU is on a usb thumb.

You don't get any message to install the patch, this way the patch is "installed" already in the System Cache. In most games there is no real way of telling. Sometimes there is a version number (Fallout NV), sometimes there is options there that werent there before (Red dead redemption, Gears of War 2), sometimes there is nothing (LA Noire).
A surefire way to test if the game is using your usb drive (while the game runs on disc or HDD) is to pull out the usb while its playing. If it asks to put the usb back, it's using the update (which is always unless you got the wrong Title update, see below).
1 thing though: sometimes there are multiple versions of games, and therefor multiple Title Updates. To make sure you can compare the media ID of your game with the media ID of the Update (which is usually mentioned before you download). You can use abgx for that.
Also: title updates are incremental. So for instance Title update 7 of a game has the changes of all other 6 updates awell.

Not sure I get it, so if the game is running from the dvd the USB has to be plugged in the xbox the whole time for the update to work?

Thats how it worked for me when i tested it on another game. So yes i think you have to have the USB plugged in the whole time.

Bleh for some reason Multiman just freezes while trying to read my NTFS drive.. I setup the USB.cfg etc but no luck. I dont really want to transfer 24gb over ftp as that will take awhile.. is there a tool to split the game so it fits onto my FAT32 drive and then Multiman can read it?
I like bum.

ahh haa (PC SPLIT) SPLIT4G.EXE _: Application to split 4GB+ (large) files (split4g.exe) for transfer to USB FAT32, compatible with multiMAN's JOIN/SPLIT functions and Comgenie's FileManager
I like bum.
