The sense of entitlement from some of the people here lately is rather...sickening. Independent devs like 1C in Russia have more respect from me than any other "big-name" developers (think Treyarch, "hollywood" game devs).
I've been a fan of the IL2 series since the original Sturmovik, it is still one of the most memorable flight sim experiences I've ever had. 1C really cares about their customers.
Cliffs of dover is shaping up to be the next great flight sim. Obviously it's got some issues out of the gate, it's very likely they pushed it out early simply to survive long enough to get some additional funding.
The game still has close to a month before it's US date and the devs are already hard at work on fixing a lot of the performance issues.
TLDR;
It's a fucking SIM not an arcade shooter. If you liked the last IL2 you'll probably fucking hate this. Great. You're not the target market. And stop bitching. It's free for you.

But of course, expecting a game - or a sim - to actually work, at a reasonable performance - that's a sense of entitlement.
Where do you come up with this nonsense?
Also, 1C is far from needing to "push it out early simply to survive long enough" as almost most of the "Hollywood" publishers out there.

You can spew the crap all you want, but Wings of Prey was at least perfect from technical stand-point, and Gaijin is hardly any bigger or "Hollywood" than 1C. I will not defend Gaijin, as they were awful at supporting WoP, but credits are due where needed.
Another great concern is what DLC fiasco 1C has in store for this game. But whatever it is, I am sure some stupid fanboys will dismiss any criticism as a "sense of entitlement". Because Russian sim developers have no greed, never.

are you on drugs or something? alot of us are avid aviation goers, playing combat flight games or flight in general for many years. Il2 played to death etc over and over its a great "sim" and yes that was meant to be a "sim" also for combat.
Cliffs of dover, is no different apart from updated model damage and looks for the most part. Its just a fine tuned "supposed to be better looking","SIM" than Il2 was. What COD is doing is just adding "more" sim possibility with the models.
It means fuck all wether you liked il2 and then you wont like Cod.. Shit! that is retarded thing to say.

@moosenoodles He meant Wings of Prey.
This wasn't even supposed to be an IL2 title up until recently.

Cliffs of Dover was known as Storm of War, a "new franchise". Original Ubisoft press announcement:
http://www.ubi.com/US/News/Info.aspx?nId=3950
As far as I remember, it was due to lack of name rights. This has been fixed probably.

are storm of war yes how can i forget that already ffs, either way it was still back then the same "sim" and nothing about "wop" right? or even mentioned as not a sim...
oleg needs to step up, I did have high praisings for this guy as he stuck to his guns in bringing such good sim to the pc, although it seems he like all devs get some sort of arm bending for release and fuck all they can do about it even if its not ready...

Its a shame that the 2 campaigns are so linear and you can't pick a date, squadron, and a specific plane to fly in like you could in the former IL-2 campaigns. Its a huge disappointment in that regard.Hopefully we will get a DGEN or some modded campaign tool.

An xbox 360 pad for a flight simulator? That's hilarious.FFS you just don't get it.Even the simmer on a budget could go out an get a $14 Saitek joystick. If your serious you go get a HOTAS.This isn't HAWX or Ace Combat.A pad would be grossly insufficient for a sim.

@akwar He's trolling. He also complained that Shogun 2 Total War has no 360 pad support.

Quote: | Hello everyone,
Thank you all for your continuing support! Thought I'd update you on our progress made after the release date patch went live early on the 31st of March. We worked through the weekend to improve the game some more. I have to note that this wasn't anything unusual, most of the team has been working on a schedule like this for months. As I think I've mentioned somewhere, I've been working 7 days a week since mid-summer.
Our main priority, as stated before, is improving performance.
Here's what we've done as of the end of the day today.
1. Buildings are as fast as we can make them. That's it. I doubt we can improve them more.
2. Trees are still much slower than they can be, but we did completely reshovel the entire code to completely remove microfreezes. They're gone. The code is currently bruteforcing a lot of the stuff so it's not nearly as fast as it can be. We'll be optimizing it some more. Should not take a long time at all.
3. Misc bug fixes, as we can get to them, are also being put in. We've fixed the extremely unfortunate FMB oversight with the labels - it was the result of an overly zealous optimization effort last week. We've also done things to our Info windows, since they gave people more problems than we could ever possibly imagine. That alt-click, we still need to figure out what to do with it. Maybe even reverse the entire thing and make the cockpit alt-clickable and chat windows normal-clickable. I don't think we've ever done anything that confused the players more than these damned windows.
4. We've also finalized updates to the multiplayer GUI - see attachment for preview.
5. Unfortunately what seemed like an easy fix to the server search issue in steam still eludes us. Since I'm only allowed to admit to our own faults but not to other peoples' I can't say anything more about this.
The plan right now is to release an open beta version of the patch tomorrow night or the next day. It'll be a small archive you manually extract on top of your game's install. This is to allow the people to test the fixes. Since we've done some radical things in #1 and #2, we don't want to make the patch live to the entire world right away. We're hoping that everything will go smoothly and nothing new is found in the update, which means we can go ahead with our plans and push the update out to steam the end of the day Friday.
Our great hope that the Friday version will allow everyone to run the game smoothly and finally begin complaining about FM and DM and AI and skins and missions and GUI and landscape and the clouds and the weather! |

Just some positive news

Another fix that should help guys if you have a dual, quad,or better PC,
CoD performance fix
Go to C:\Users\[username]\Documents\1C SoftClub\il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
find conf.ini and
The game only uses 1 core, to use several cores:
In [rts] section uncomment ProcessAffinityMask= and use these values:
2 cores - 3
3 cores - 7
4 cores - 15
6 cores - 63
8 cores - 255

The beta optimization patch will be released today (according to this), maybe the game will be playable now
Quote: | We’ve finalized the patch tonight. We’ll be testing it all day ourselves, and hopefully release a beta version by the end of the day. The main reason for this is that we don’t want to make it live for everyone in case anything else was accidentally broken, and if we do a public test of the patch we can figure out whether we broke anything or not much sooner if we just test it ourselves. Anyone will be able to try it, see how much their performance has improved. If nothing major is found, we’ll make the patch live for everyone at the end of the day this Friday.
What we’ve done today:
1. Started figuring out SLI and Crossfire.
2. Finalized trees improvements. The overall framerate gain was actually smaller than we thought, but it can still be optimized further, just not in the time we have. The microfreezes are gone.
3. Got to the bottom of the server search issue. It will get fixed with the Friday night live release.
4. We have made some improvements to the engine sounds – exact description will be released with the patch.
5. Cleaned out the memory a lot. Whereas flying over an online map in the live version today takes up 700 megs of memory, in the developer version we have today it only takes 380. This does not affect FPS but it does affect the overall stability, loading times, etc. This is especially important for DX9 users.
6. We are also aggressively continuing to expand multicore support.
No screenshots today because visually nothing in the game changed. |

Strange, it worked great here but I've read (In the 1C forums about it.) about many others who don't notice much of a change with it either.

Yeah, I read it too, I hope that the next non-beta patch will be better.
