Shut up cuntfric! Dead Space was an accurate depiction of life in space and survival! It's more of a simulator than anything else!! In which other game can you turn your weapon for strategic advantage? This is what counts! Your numbers and "rules" don't apply in real life!

I'm with Sabin on this (as he very well knows <3), I do often take it a step further though. ME1 I got through, even though I found the gameplay lackluster. ME2 however, I never finished. The complete lack of any gameplay that requires more than 3 braincells left me so bored that not even the story could pull me through. If I want just a good story, I'll read a book or watch a film - in a game, I expect gameplay; after all, why else does one play a game?

I could go further into this, but I'm pretty sure most of you won't care. If DA2 has gone in the direction of ME2, I doubt I'll finish it. I'd rather go and reinstall LBA 1 or 2 and enjoy what essentially where children's games more than high-profile AAA titles from now.

I dont understand what makes this game a dumbed down rpg in the eyes of many people...

Is it the "quasi" real time combat? Gothic had an atrocious real time combat system with no depth beyond the insane exploits by mobs and player alike, The Witcher had a moronic combat system with real time quick-time type of gameplay for combat chains. In both those games, on the normal difficulty i never had to use potions, poisons, elaborate tactics, etc, still they are both considered hardcore rpg's.

Is it the character being non-customizable? Again, Gothic, The Witcher, Planescape Torment, all of them hardcore RPG's, none of them allowing you to choose your Hero.

Is the the conversation system? Whats the difference between having multiple choices as text (DA O) or as voice (DA 2)? Both had a system where the player can choose to be a:

1. Paladin Dick
2. Evil Dick
3. Sarcastic Dick
4. Neutral Dick

Your still a dick, the difference is your a voiced dick in DA 2.

As i said before, im here for the story, and from what i have seen, the story is shaping up to be much better than the idiotic tale told by Origins... The Awakening expansion was much better in that regard. Smile

The environments in this demo are very bland, as well as the stereotyped characters design (imo, obviously). It looks like a brainless, gory and linear hack 'n slash. Probably it will be fun for some hours, but I'm not expecting anything mind-blowing from this game..

Quite a few of us have explained why we believe it to be dumbed down, but you're not looking for opinions -- you're looking for a fight :\ Whenever someone ventures a REASON for why they believe it's dumbed down, you try to correct them or explain it away. If you have to explain to people why something ISN'T dumbed down, then - IMO - you've already lost Razz

Not trying to pick a fight with anyone, just trying to figure out why so many people dislike a game before even trying it out, especially when the company making it is known to make some kick ass rpg's. Smile

Let's hope the demo is a good showcase, if not... cross fingers for an early leak, all this waiting is leaving me anxious. Razz

Known to ORIGINALLY make some kick-ass RPGs, yes... but lately all they produce is streamlined rubbish that eliminates features/etc from prior games in exchange for more pew-pew (or in the case of DA2; slash-slash Very Happy) BioWare of old, back when they published and made awesome games, were brilliant ... but they're not BioWare any more, now they're BioWere.

... again, in my opinion. Which is just that; an opinion Wink

Have you even played any of the games that have come out recently? THAT is why most of us are so sceptic when all they show is hack 'n slash done badly.

Or are you one of the ones who really think ME2 for example was an amazing game?

What garbage Laughing bioware is really pathetic, they went from "we're going to make a great rpg" to "we're making a hack&slash with buckets of blood and tits optimized for the gamepad", that video is horrendous.

RIP bioware

ps. fuck you bioware and ea

To be honest, im not a great shooter fan, especially 3rd person, that being said, i really enjoyed the story, the characters and the acting, they were all spot on... and we all know how hard it is to get our hands on a good scifi story.

Looking back at bioware along the years, i think they have been evolving on the story telling, experimenting with new things and trying to figure out how to make an expansive rpg in a 3D centric market.

To make something with the scope of BG2, with voice overs in a 3D gameworld, would take more money than it would ever make up with sales.

Still, out of all the games bioware has made so far, the best for me was KotOR 1, that game opened my eyes to how an RPG can become a true cinematic experience, simply amazing.

I am worried, as much as I thought ME2 was an "ok" game. It was a step down from the first part. Not sure what has happened with Bioware, maybe EA am presuring them toward the more mainstream ways? They were the very core of rpgs back in the days, talked highly about their complex system. Now they just cut stuff from their game, make them very shallow.

They still have awesome stories, but as Werelds say...if that's all what's left I rather read a book or see a movie :/

So coding your own companion AI, so you don't need to manually active Assault every single time is derptastics?!?

Fact: derps don't even bother with tactic system
Fact2: you need to be pretty creative with that system to make companions do anything smart (without babysitting every round), since whole system is very clumsy (no ability for multiple conditions to do one thing, or negative conditions, and some other stuff)

Fact3: lower difficulties are too easy, so you don't need to bother with tactic system, or manually controlling companions, to make them use their power optimally. This is what kills depth.

P.S.
Now, I wouldn't need tactic system if you could give orders in queues, like in older Bioware titles. But currently, in order to optimally use all abilities of all companions you need to pause after every hit and rotate between companions to do anything. Even most mundane things. Like activating some simple warrior talent, every time when cooldown period ends.

It's all in perspective.. those who played and loved the hardcore RPG classics will obviously try to compare the game to that. If you are just getting into this genre, you will take the game for what it is, so you won't notice what's missing. Those who are kinda stuck in the middle might not be pleased with the direction, but could find it easier to accept the changes...

For me, the biggest problem with the BioWare games so far is the level design - locations always feel too enclosed and limited. This manages to affect everything: the sense of scale and a large world is immediately lost, combat suddenly becomes too linear and repetitive, even if I don't have much problems with the combat mechanics themselves. In that regard, DA2 at least retains its numerous skills and abilities. ME2 with its streamlining hardly allowed for some creativity or tactical options beyond a couple of choices...

Everything else seems to work fine for me, so far.
