just bought a new MSI CR630 laptop with Windows7 64bit but randomly i will get blank black screen errors eg I will be browsing the net then it will freeze and it all goes black and I have to turn off by the power button and turn it back on, in fact it did it during writing this...
But sometimes you can leave it on all day and its fine.
I have updated to all the latest windows 7 updates
it does it when running off battery power and the psu
does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

Sorry to hear that man.. when it goes black are you sure it's not just turning off? It could be a faulty power connection, which technically you could fix if you are comfortable with a soldering iron, but the best option is probably to RMA it since you have warranty coverage.

Alternatively, if it's just the monitors going black and the fans are still going, try giving the monitor a swift lil jolt (dont' hit it..just try moving it back and forth a little bit, see if the connection is giving out)

its not turning off the lights are still on etc
you can tell when its going to do it as everything freezes (cant move the mouse etc) then 5 - 10 seconds later it goes to a black screen where the only way to get it back on is to hold the power button down to turn it off then turn back on again

Last time I saw this happen it was because of 2 burnt out pins at the CPU's 4-pin power supply. It would also get hot.
If you can quickly reproduce the problem by running a CPU benchmark, then it's CPU related. Try running a CPU benchmark.

I wonder if the heat from the stress test has sorted it out if it was a dodgy solder joint? still hasnt done it!!
