I just picked up Fall Out New Vegas. Before I begin playing, what mods do you guys recommend? Where can I find them?
I really enjoyed Fall Out 3....hope this lives up to my expectations.
Thanks in advance.

Try the search function. Or, just go back to the previous page in this thread where the exact same question was asked (even though the answer was boobs ). Point is, this question has been asked several times.
Does it rely on NVSE? If so, looks like I'm going to have to source a cheap key for New Vegas (it's about time really, game is definitely worth my money)
NVSE works just fine with a modified exe via a alternative launcher.
Fallout Mod manager and launching the game via NVSE that way for example.
(I use it even if I own the game as the official launcher is highly crash prone and unstable, seems to affect a lot of people.)
I don't "hate", I just don't "use" I tend to avoid the shit out of full overhaul mods, except for stuff like MMM, as they often change/adjust too much. This one however looks great, it's a gameplay enhancement mod - not a global fuckup
Does the console command GetNVSEVersion return anything, should give a value if NVSE is launched correctly and say unknown command if not.
Launching NVSE directly will start the game but shouldn't "hook" it as per the checks Sabin mentions so that's why I'm asking.
(It's all in the readme file for the program.)
It returns "NVSE Version: 1" for me.
If you want a screenshot as proof, just tell me.
FOMM just launches nvse_loader.exe, too, and does nothing differently.
No I believe you, mostly it was a question out of curiosity as I never got it to work that way myself plus the checks that try to have it start via the launcher and Steam that's in place (Though confirmed as a bit buggy apparently.) though and you probably knew it was working as if you use NVSE you likely use mods or tools (Like the stutter preventer thing which I use myself to name one.) which rely on it.
I wasn't doubting you, Overlord =) Just going by what the NVSE readme and Nexus page says -- plus the associated fallout (pun not intended ) after their announcement where everyone went nuts

Exactly, I use the stutter remover and several more that rely on NVSE.
I guess they say it's not compatible because it's illegal to use the crack and they don't want to officially support pirates or somesuch.
Edit: I just checked the included readme, it nowhere says it does not support the unencrypted exe. The only passage that says something like that (Compatibility section) only means you need the latest patch version but not necessarily steam as far as I understand it.
Is there a way to start the game without all those extra *packs (caravan pack etc), i really dislike starting a RPG with a ton of stuff. The less the better, best would be if i could start with no cash or items at all (maybe there's a mod for that?).
I've removed all *.bsa's named *pack, which doesnt help at all, the game will still say "adding caravan pack" etc.
BSA files are just the data content, ESP's are what you would need to remove, and to stop any DLC from auto loading you need to remove the .nam file, there are also mods that alter how these items are received and when which is recommended instead of outright deleting them.
I think I'm pretty close to beating this, finally made myself enter the strip as I've killed everyone I've come across on the map (playing an evil character LOL)
Went ahead and grabbed FO3 GOTY edition to install after I beat this.....never got far into that game, this one just grabbed my nuts as soon as I started playing.

Ok, thanks.
Has anyone found a way to alter your looks after you've gotten into the game? showracemenu doesnt seem to work for this game http://piclair.com/data/ko3dw.jpg
Fail that they don't mention/give credit to the modders that have made some of the mods that they're combining into "their mod". Ex. Gopher that did the Thermal Night Vision mod http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38328
But overall it's a nice combination of mods added together into 1 pack..
