Although I think it is not the right thread for it. Drinking coffee and tea too hot (irritates mouth, throat, esophagus and stomach) can be harmful in the long run.

heck think ill just stick to drinking plain water from now on..
im a big tea drinker and wonder if its way to much I drink and causing issues, I have stomach issues with over active acid in the extreme sense causes alot of discomfart at times.. and coupled with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costochondritis is a bit painful..
Id rather stay away from anything that might help along cancers, but I think as epsilon sudgests its pretty random who it hits, you just goto be aware of when and catch this shit early to get some treatment done..

Yes but hot liquids are not carcinogenic.

Everything that promotes cell division increases the risk of getting cancer. It's like entering the lottery. The more times you do it the more likely you are to "win". Carcinogens increase the chance of "winning" per draw. Both increase the risk of getting cancer, but they are not the same.

Carcinogen can also be an agent that causes cancer, heat (radiation) is an physical agent.

Actually, no.
The chance of winning does not increase with every time you play. You have the same chance every time. If there's 1 in a 100000000000 chance of winning the first time you play, it will be the same the next, and the next, and so on.

Actually, yes.
If you play once - you have only one chance to win, if you play twice you have two and so on.
If you play once and lose, you have NO chance to win, unless you play again. NO chance is less than the original 1 in a 100000000000 chance.
So, while what you are saying is correct, playing more times does increase your chances to win.
That is the logic of helvete's analogy - if you are exposed to a carcinogen - you are "enjoying" an increased chance of getting cancer for the duration. The more times you are exposed - the more periods of increased odds you have.

When I say win I mean getting a win at the lottery. The chance of winning each single draw is of course the same. From how I described carcinogens I thought that was pretty obvious.

That's an extremely simple representation of cancer. The causal relationship is not that simplistic.

Correct if we were referring to independent variables in probability theory, we are not.
Every time a cell undergoes mitosis single nucleotide mutations are introduced into the daughter cells, these mutations are cumulative over progressive cell generations until either apoptosis is induced or post-hayflick telomerase mutations occur. Exceptions are germ cells and pluripotent stem cells.

ABC news is bullshit.
If you check the dates on any of those studies you'll see they are more then a decade old, like I stated: Coffee = Cancer is an antiquated belief in modern biology.

When it comes to those links...remember, they are American. A good portion, or atleast a portion of the US population doesn't believe in a) evolution b) that the whole earth isnt more than 6000 years old (read genesis)....thats crazy shit man. To think that everything we have know is dude to a chick eating a fucking apple...
Yet, just last nite on Bill Maher he had 2 guests...one who was Republican Congressman who flatly stated he didn't believe nor could he understand how an animal could emerge from the sea and eventually, over MILLIONS of years turn into us....*smacks head*
The other panel ppl try to tell this guy "Talk to any scientist and they will tell you evolution is indeed real as it is happening right at this moment".
My point being, that 'God will save us if we pray hard enough' mentality interferes in all things currently going on in the US. And unfortuntly, debates that happen in the US happen atleast in Canada and sometimes make their way to England.
So, to quote any American media source as evidence or proof to a point is nuts as its 100 percent biased....now if you quote say a paper done by some known scientist, thats different.
Anyway, ya, wanted to through that in as Ive been really annoyed lately with the level of bias in the media...its worse than it was like 2 or 3 years ago by a lot.
